I continue to work on the first draft of Raw Desires, the third core story in the Cyborg Unity series (releasing in February). This is such an action-packed story. (grins) And, of course, there are jokes. And love. There is so much love. I think you’ll enjoy this story, my friends.

Halloween is my favorite holiday. People dress up and play make believe for the day. We give out (and eat) tiny bits of candy. There are pumpkins and jack o’lanterns everywhere. There’s a sense of community in the neighborhood. That makes me happy.

Saying I Love You And Sincerity
There was a discussion recently about whether or not people who say ‘I love you’ often are sincere about that love.
My first reaction (and this might very well be the wrong reaction) when I hear people wonder why other say ‘I love you’ so often is… they’re fortunate. They’ve never lost someone they’ve loved and felt the regret of not having told them how they felt one more time.
I HAVE experienced that regret and I’m determined never to feel it again. So I tell people I love them at the end of every phone call. And I tell them that every time we part. I want ‘I love you’ to be the last words they hear from me. They should never doubt how I feel about them.
The Dear Wonderful Hubby is also a words of love type of guy. He needs to hear ‘I love you’ to feel loved. And he needs to say it when he feels that emotion. That’s important to him.
I tell the Dear Wonderful Hubby I love him hundreds of times a day. That makes him happy and it is the absolute truth. I love him to bits. (grins)

Grin And Bare Him And Alpha Or Beta Heroes
I am super interested in hearing what you think of Grin, the hero of Grin And Bare Him (releasing in November).
I suspect some reading buddies will view him as a Beta Hero. Grin doesn’t view himself as a warrior. He is totally open to following his female’s orders. He processes situations from different perspectives before he reacts to them.
Some other reading buddies will view Grin as an Alpha Hero. He has to strength to do his own thing (designing structures for his kind) and he walks away from the role everyone expects him to hold (that of being a battle-loving warrior). He says ‘no’ quite often to situations that don’t appeal to him. When it comes to his female’s safety, he doesn’t relent.
Grin is a complex hero. (smiles) I love him to bits.

Grin And Bare Him And Expectations
Parents often have expectations for us.
In my family, my Awesome Mom dearly wished that we’d all go to university/college. She went to university on a full scholarship (for Latin – grins) and she had a wonderful time. She had to quit when she contracted mono and lost her scholarship (she worries now for the scholarship students dealing with COVID) but she wanted that same joy for us.
All six of us did go to university. Not all of us graduated but we had the university experience. And we met my Awesome Mom’s expectations for us.
If we hadn’t gone to university/college, my Awesome Mom would have been disappointed but her love for us wouldn’t have decreased. We all knew that.
Not everyone’s parents or ‘makers’ would have been that understanding.
Grin, the hero of Grin And Bare Him (releasing in November), was manufactured for battle for example. The Humanoid Alliance expected him to fight and fight well.
Grin wasn’t interested in fighting. As a result, his skills were…suboptimal. The Humanoid Alliance’s response to that was harsh. He was slotted for decommissioning, would have been killed if he hadn’t escaped.
Freedom saved his lifespan but it didn’t delete expectations for him. Other beings assume he’s a skilled warrior because he’s a cyborg. Many of his cyborg brethren find his lack of interest in battle unusual.
Grin knows this. And he expects this…even from his newly-located female.

Grin And Bare Him And Keid 9
Mohini, the heroine of Grin And Bare Him (releasing in November), desperately needs transport to Keid 9, a Humanoid Alliance-controlled planet.
Keid 9 is named after Keid, the primary star of the 40 Eridani system.
40 Eridani is a triple star system in the constellation of Eridanus. It is less than 17 light-years from our Sun.
Keid, also known as 40 Eridani A, is visible with the naked Human eye here on Earth.
Keid is Arabic for the eggshells and it gained that name because it is located close to Beid, which is Arabic for egg. (grins)

Muse Food – Bees
Albert Einstein once said, “If the bee disappears from the surface of the Earth, man would have no more than four years left to live.”
I think it is amazing that our survival is dependent on the tiniest of creatures.
Watching the bees in my corner of the world gives me hope for the world. The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I do all we can to ensure our neighborhood is bee-friendly.
Bees also inspire me creatively. I love the idea of the tiniest character in a story saving the universe. (grins)

Make ONE Difference
With our world being the way it is (waves at everything happening around us), it is easy to get overwhelmed as to how to help.
I focus on making ONE difference a day.
Yesterday, I picked up a bit of garbage in our neighborhood. The world was a bit more beautiful. Birds wouldn’t try to eat that plastic. Kids wouldn’t touch it. I helped and it made me feel better about myself and everything else.
The day before that, I made a small donation to the local food bank. $1 provides 1 meal to 1 person. Someone ate because of that tiny donation. Their world was happier. That makes me feel good. (smiles)
Every little thing we do makes a difference. I focus on that and that works for me. It might work for you too.

Grin And Bare Him And Friends Forever
The next three stories in the Cyborg Unity series, starting with Grin And Bare Him (releasing in November), feature three best friends – Grin, Raw and Strive.
These three cyborgs were manufactured in the same vat. They trained together. They escaped the Humanoid Alliance together.
They are the same model type, which means they physically look very similar, but they are emotionally and intellectually VERY different males.
If you met them separately, you would never believe they are friends. THAT’s how different they are.
But they ARE friends, best friends and they would do anything for each other.

Steamy Or Spicy Romances
There is a discussion online about romances being labeled as steamy or spicy.
Some readers don’t like this. They would prefer the stories be described as sexy.
We, writers, would often prefer that also. (grins)
But describing our stories as sexy at booksellers will cause those stories, in the best case, to be placed in the erotica dungeon.
The erotica dungeon isn’t a fun place to be. It means most readers won’t be able to find our stories at the booksellers. Our sales often drop like a stone and then we can’t afford book covers and other book production costs and, oh yeah, food. (laughs) Food is important.
Erotica is also NOT a good fit for even the sexiest of romances. Because erotica readers tend to not want any romance in their stories.
Erotica readers are unhappy. Romance readers are unhappy. Writers are unhappy (and hungry).
That is the best case scenario.
The worst case scenario, and with the world trending the way it is, this worst case is very much possible, is the stories are banned. And the writers are banned.
So writers are resorting to using words like ‘spicy’ or ‘steamy.’
Soon, the booksellers will target those words also (as they have also targeted the movie ratings and ‘adult’ and other words) and we’ll have to find another way to describe sexy books.
Trigger warnings are a no-no now also. If you see the word ‘dark’, assume there are triggers and investigate more. Simply putting ‘trigger warning’ on a book description can move a story to the erotica dungeon (and possibly get it banned).
Now, you might be thinking, ‘I’m going to help Cynthia Sax out and put those words in my reviews.’
I appreciate the thought. (big hugs) But please don’t risk this. Writers and publishers aren’t the only people getting banned at booksellers. (ALWAYS back up your book files.) Consider using steamy and spicy in your reviews also.
