Throwback Thursday – Breathing Vapor

By Cynthia Sax on February 27, 2025

Mira, the human heroine of Breathing Vapor, looks like a villain. The cyborgs, including Vapor, the hero, believe she’s a cruel and unfeeling monster like her father.

They don’t realize she’s doing her fraggest to help them. She’s a rebel in disguise.

She’s also Vapor’s genetic match, the one being in the universe he was manufactured to bond with.

And she’s his target.

He plans to stop her activities. Permanently.

Breathing Vapor

Vapor is the most advanced cyborg the Humanoid Alliance has ever developed. He’s a finely honed weapon, a warrior without parallel, half man and half machine. No lock can contain him. No being can stop him. Whatever he wants, he takes.

He wants Mira Breazeal, the Designer’s daughter.

She’s his one temptation, his sexy target. Vapor shouldn’t crave her caresses, steal her kisses, make her scream with ecstasy. The cyborgs want her dead and they would question his loyalty if he didn’t kill her. The humans would shoot him on sight if he dared to touch her.

Their love is forbidden. Their desire could be lethal. One human and one cyborg will risk everything for a moment of passion.

Mango Season In Madagascar

By Cynthia Sax on February 26, 2025

The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I last visited Madagascar in December and it was mango season!

The mangoes were falling off the trees and rotting. That was how plentiful they were.

(According to our guide, it was a disastrous year for lychee, however. The guide blamed that on climate change and the huge decrease in the number of bees.)

The Dear Wonderful Hubby absolutely LOVES mangoes. He picked a gazillion off the trees and gobbled them up (you’ll notice the mango juice on his fingers in the photo – grins).

Our guide told him the mangoes he was eating were juicing mangoes, not eating mangoes.

The Dear Wonderful Hubby replied with a grin, “All mangoes are eating mangoes for me.”

The guide shook his head and laughed.

Regrowing Store-Bought Vegetables From Scraps

By Cynthia Sax on February 25, 2025

The Dear Wonderful Hubby, when he has the choice, always buys vegetables and herbs with their roots intact.

We then cut off the roots plus a little bit extra, stick those roots in dirt and hope the plants grow back.

We did that with this cilantro here.

These cilantro roots have been planted for 2 days and they’re already growing little leaves.

The tops of the plants WILL likely grow back.

So a piece of carrot (the orange part IS all root) might grow carrot tops (which are GREAT in soups). It is unlikely, however, to grow another ‘carrot’ i.e. orange root part.

Herbs respond awesomely to this ‘trick.’ It is a fast track to growing them.

Green onions are the absolute BEST, however. We’ll buy a bunch of green onions, cut off the bottom part with the roots (eating the rest of it), stick those roots in dirt and we can cut and recut those green onions about five or six more times.

This is fun for us. And we usually get at least one more harvest from any roots.

(smiles)

Muse Food – Revisiting Puerto Vallarta And Circular Storytelling

By Cynthia Sax on February 24, 2025

The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I have been fortunate to visit Puerto Vallarta, Mexico many, MANY times.

We always walk along the Malecon and we usually stop for a moment at the child riding a seahorse scupture.

It is different every time we visit. In the early years, it didn’t have the Puerto Vallarta sign around it. Now, that sign is painted a bit differently every visit.

I like that. I like seeing the changes.

As I like seeing the changes in characters in circular storytelling. When we place characters in a similar situation as they experienced at the beginning of their story, it emphasizes the growth and changes they have endured. That’s fascinating!

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – February 23

By Cynthia Sax on February 23, 2025

The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I spotted this ‘flower’ licking his little nose in Abu Dhabi.

(smiles)

I am still undecided as to the fate of the Moonbeam re-releases. I REALLY want to re-release these fun 100 page alien romances. But I don’t want to waste my awesome cover designer’s time. I respect her too much for that!

Have a wonderful week, my friends. (big hugs) Try to lick your own nose. I can’t manage it. I CAN fold my tongue in two lengthwise. (grins) I consider that to be an accomplishment. And I can lick other people’s noses. (laughs) That’s doable. But only do that if you KNOW they don’t mind having their noses licked! Humans can be strange about that for some bizarre reason.

Cats Are Loved Worldwide

By Cynthia Sax on February 22, 2025

The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I enjoy taking photos of feral cats when we travel.

We’re not alone. Everywhere we went, other people were cooing over the cats and trying to take their photos.

This young semi-feral cat in Qatar, for example, was meowing pitifully.

And a local man was pleading and pleading with him.

I didn’t understand the man’s language but I understood what he was trying to communicate.

He gestured to the full container of water. “You have water, little kitty.”

Then he gestured to the full container of delicious-appearing food. “You have food, little kitty.”

As you can see in the photo, there was a ‘tent’ set up for the cat using sinfully soft carpets. Shelter had been provided by his human.

The cat’s hair was spotless and he looked to be super healthy.

But this semi-feral cat had a complaint and his poor human was almost desperate to uncover what it was.

THAT is how much this semi-feral kitty in Qatar is loved.
(smiles)

And THAT is how much kitties are loved all over the world.

Here For The Bloodletting

By Cynthia Sax on February 21, 2025

Readers, like you and I, usually have larger than average vocabularies. We know words other people don’t use, might not have used ever or in decades.

And that can give us an opportunity to surprise and delight others.

(grins)

Recently, in preparation for my annual physical, my Awesome Doctor sent me to a lab for a blood test.

I bounced up to the front desk and cheerily declared, “I’m here for the bloodletting.”

Everyone around me laughed.

(smiles)

When my turn came, the nurse was informed by the admin staff that I was there for the bloodletting.

She laughed also.

And as I was leaving, folks asked me how the bloodletting went. They all had smiles on their faces.

THAT is the magic of words, my friends. We can bring tremendous joy to others by merely changing one.

Create some happiness…or some chaos today!

Throwback Thursday – Dark Thoughts

By Cynthia Sax on February 20, 2025

When Kralj, the rather scary the modified humanoid Ruler of the Refuge, appeared in Chasing Mayhem, I KNEW I had to tell his extremely violent and so very heart-shattering story.

He, like the cyborgs, was designed to kill. Yet, unlike the cyborgs, he couldn’t be controlled.

Because his powers were too tremendous and because his cruel designers isolated him. He had no brethren to protect.

THEN.

He has brethren to protect now. And he does that by killing anyone with his settlement who breaks his rules.

Kralj doesn’t plan to move from that stance.

Even if that means killing the only being who can touch his heavily guarded heart.

Can love redeem a monster?

The Refuge is home to some of the most violent beings in the universe. Kralj, its leader, reigns over the remote outpost with terrifying ease, ruthlessly squashing any rumors of rebellion, killing anyone who breaks his rules. Primitive, deadly, powerful, he’s a monster, scarred both on his face and his soul. He has never met a being he couldn’t control.

Until he meets her.

Dita has one mission—to kill the three targets claiming sanctuary within the Refuge. Or so she claims. For the first time in his long lifespan, Kralj isn’t certain of another being’s intentions. The tiny assassin is immune to his powers, her thoughts unreadable. He can’t predict her movements, can’t control her, can’t stop wanting her.

Dita is rare, as unique as he is, and, to keep the residents of the Refuge safe, Kralj will have to kill her. But first, he’ll touch her, taste her, show her how passionate the beast inside him can be.

Dark Thoughts is a STAND-ALONE SciFi Romance.
The hero might be tall, dark, and scarred but don’t be fooled by his appearance.
He’s truly a monster.
This story is not for readers with delicate sensibilities.

Chameleons And Other Lizards In Madagascar

By Cynthia Sax on February 19, 2025

The Dear Wonderful Hubby arranged for a world renowned naturalist to show the two of us a bit of Madagascar. This naturalist’s main area of expertise is reptiles.

Which meant, to my delight, we saw SO MANY chameleons and other lizards. (grins)

Look at this little dinosaur going for a very slow, shaky walk! (grins)

This little guy is clinging to his tree.

This one is fully exposed and sunning himself.

This chameleon was challenging to spot.

As was this one!

Look at this chameleon’s tail!

This chameleon was TINY! And look at his nose!

There were other lizards also.

The lizards, like this one, could be as challenging to spot as the chameleons were.

Sometimes they stood out, however. (grins)

Or were upside down.

Or were tiny. This little guy was the width of a dragonfly.

Madagascar is definitely a great place for reptile watching! We had SUCH a great time!

Dark Thoughts Featured In The Roswell Daily Record

By Cynthia Sax on February 18, 2025

The always awesome Veronica Scott crafted a fun article for the Roswell Daily Record. She asked SciFi Romance Writers which stories of theirs didn’t get enough love.

I chose Dark Thoughts, which might surprise lovers of this darker alien-like romance.

But, as I share,

“It wasn’t a cyborg romance, which is what many readers expect from me. And it didn’t fit into the alien romance category as the hero is a modified humanoid. It is also darker in tone because the hero kills frequently and enthusiastically. But it doesn’t fall into dark romance.”

Read the entire wonderful article here…
