Containing Malice And Zombies

By Cynthia Sax on January 16, 2021

Containing Malice features the Humanoid Alliance’s version of super fast zombies. (grins)

Reanimating the dead has been referred to in previous stories. It is seen as a fate worse than permanent death.

In Containing Malice, we find out more about these experiments.

Why would the Humanoid Alliance bring back the dead? Wouldn’t it be easier to craft beings from nothing?

Reanimating an enemy’s dead to fight that enemy would appeal to the Humanoid Alliance’s cruel natures. And it might be economical for them. They can merely infect the fallen and replenish their fighting forces that way. There would be no need for transportation or manufacturing.

But I also believe the Humanoid Alliance is searching for what many humans have strived for centuries to find – eternal life. These experiments could bring them one step closer to accomplishing this feat.

Containing Malice

This tormented cyborg craves vengeance…and her.

***

Malice, a C Model cyborg, has spent his long lifespan enslaved by the Humanoid Alliance. His cruel manufacturers have hurt him in all the ways a male could be hurt.

His enemy has now added a new weapon to their arsenal—a tiny human medic with soft hands and a delectable scent. She experiments on him multiple times a shift, delivering pain…and frustration.

He wants her. He also seeks retribution.

Once Malice frees himself, he plans to achieve both of his goals, taking Medic Illona captive and ending her research…permanently.

Illona is as much a prisoner as the cyborgs she experiments on. Since her arrival at the Human Alliance’s secret laboratory, she has carefully, stealthily, crafted a plot to free her test subjects. To conceal her covert activities, the medic has been forced to harm beings rather than heal them.

The being she has damaged the most is also the cyborg she fiercely desires— Malice, a huge, gray-skinned, blue-eyed C Model with massive hands and a voice deeper than space. He hates her, has good reason to do so, and, when he’s freed, there’s a high probability he’ll kill her.

Illona will take that risk to ensure he survives.

Containing Malice And Families

By Cynthia Sax on January 15, 2021

Cyborgs don’t have families like you and I might think of them. They were created in vats, didn’t know their genetic donors. Yet they have created family-like units that rival any you and I have experienced.

At first, these units consisted of warriors in their batches, the cyborgs they trained with. These males (females are rare) were all the same model type so cyborgs always have a strong affiliation with brethren with their same model type. (This is why warriors on the Cyborg Council primarily represent their model types.)

When the cyborgs started fighting for the Humanoid Alliance, their families expanded to include other model types they fought alongside. Shared experiences, especially trauma, tightened their bonds.

Malice, the C Model hero of Containing Malice, has been trapped in an underground Humanoid Alliance lab for solar cycles. His sole companion is Valor, an E Model. Their bond is EXTREMELY tight. Malice would kill, would die for Valor. And Valor would do the same for Malice.

The Humanoid Alliance know this and has been using their connection to control them.

The baddies didn’t factor into their equation one determined female medic, however.

Containing Malice And Names

By Cynthia Sax on January 13, 2021

Illona, the heroine of Containing Malice, is named after a reading buddy. She sent me an email. I told her I loved her name and would be using it in a future story. (grins) That’s the danger of contacting me. If you have a name I haven’t yet used in a story, I will likely steal it and add it to my list.

Medic Febris (whom the Dear Wonderful Hubby calls Febreze after the odor elimination product – grins), Illona’s friend, is named after the Roman Goddess, the protector of beings suffering from fever and malaria. The Goddess Febris was known for her honesty and her good judgment. Only you can decide if those characteristics can be applied to Illona’s friend.

Malice and Valor chose their names. Their names represent how they view themselves.

Malice does intend to do harm to others. (That includes Illona.) That, and protecting Valor, is his primary focus. He is very, very angry and plans to express that anger in violent ways.

Valor, once he is free, is determined to be worthy of his name. He is a very protective being (as Malice is) and he views himself as a futuristic version of a white knight. He merely has to find someone to save.

The baddies in Containing Malice are all named after serial killers. Most of my baddies are named after very bad people. I try not to taint other names with the baddies’ evil actions.

Starting With Containing Malice

By Cynthia Sax on January 8, 2021

Some reading buddies have asked me if they can enjoy Containing Malice, the first story in the Rebel Cyborgs series, without having read any of the other cyborg series or stories.

YES! Containing Malice was written assuming readers have never read any of my previous stories.

I was so concerned about getting that aspect right; I asked someone I respected who hasn’t read any of my cyborg romances to read the first 1,000 words. She had some awesome feedback, which I incorporated into the story. And with those changes, she had no problems being sucked into Malice and Illona’s story.

Of course, reading buddies who have read the previous stories will have more insights into events and the histories of the other cyborgs and females mentioned. (grins)

And Releasing Rage, as of today, is still FREE everywhere. If you like Releasing Rage, you will likely enjoy Containing Malice and you’ll have a greater understanding of cyborgs and their universe. You might consider trying this FREE story first.

But you don’t have to do that. You can start happily with Containing Malice.

Containing Malice And Underground Labs

By Cynthia Sax on January 6, 2021

I think every villain with the capabilities or resources should have an underground laboratory.

I know. I know. This is almost a cliché for villains but there’s a reason for that – underground labs are SUPER COOL.

Since I was a little kid, I’ve been enthralled with them. Having a secret space, a place hidden away from the rest of the universe, where we could experiment and plot to take over the world is so fraggin’ bad a$$.

There are, of course, symbolic reasons why villains have underground labs. It suggests the experiments, the activities within them are so bad; they shouldn’t see the light of day. Underground labs hint at links to the Hell, to the Underworld. Their placements imply they are something decrepit or rotten, deserving to be buried.

But mostly…they’re so very awesome. (grins)

In Containing Malice, Malice and Illona are trapped in an underground lab run by the evil Humanoid Alliance. It is a site many villains would envy and less nefarious beings plot to escape from.

(cue evil laughter)

The little girl in me is thrilled.

Containing Malice, Darkness And Happy Endings

By Cynthia Sax on January 2, 2021

Containing Malice, February’s cyborg romance release, starts out very dark (Releasing Rage and Ghost Of A Machine level of dark). Both the heroine, Illona, and the hero, Malice, are trapped in a horrific situation. She is forced to hurt him. He is forced to endure it. This is sucking the hope out of not only them but many of the beings captured with them.

Containing Malice is also, I believe, one of the most romantic stories I’ve ever written.

I don’t think this is a coincidence. I think their love, their light shines more brightly because of the darkness. The pain and tragedy and sacrifice Illona and Malice have endured during their lifespans accentuates all they eventually gain. They’ve known sorrow, can better appreciate joy, have fought to merely survive, would do even more to truly live.

Cyborg Celebrations And Fermented Beverage

By Cynthia Sax on December 28, 2020

When beings in the cyborg universe celebrate, they usually share containers of fermented beverage. Fermented beverage, unfortunately, usually does nothing for cyborgs. Their systems won’t allow them to suffer from a buzz or a similar impairment in that way. It DOES, however, impact humans and most non-modified humanoids.

What is the likelihood we can make fermented beverages or a version of alcohol on a life-supporting planet?

Considering, here on Earth, we can make fermented beverages from a wide assortment of plants, the odds are pretty dang good. The ‘science’ also doesn’t require sophisticated equipment. There have been historical references made to alcohol-like beverages since the first century.

I suspect alien counterparts DO have some sort of fermented beverage. They might celebrate their planets’ orbit around their suns with a drink in their hands also. (grins) That prospect makes me smile.

Wintery Alien Worlds

By Cynthia Sax on December 16, 2020

It is quite snowy in my part of the universe today. It looks like a winter wonderland outside my window. The blanket of sparkling white over everything is beautiful.

There are writers who have crafted some equally wonderful wintery alien worlds. Ruby Dixon, for example, has her awesome Ice Planet Barbarian series and spinoff series.

I have one alien/cyborg romance story set on an ice-covered planet.

One. (Warlord Reunited.)

Why?

Because I live in Canada and snow is my reality for a good portion of the year. (This is changing rapidly and noticeably with climate change, unfortunately, but for now, the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I have snow.) I’m currently typing this post wearing my fingerless gloves and I haven’t seen the sun in over a week.

Writing is an escape for me so I usually choose to go somewhere where there is sun and warmth. There’s often sand because water is at a premium throughout the universe and I don’t expect that will ever change. And it is much easier to have sexy times in warm places. Clothing can be shed and no one has to worry about bits being frozen off. (grins)

Holding Hoarse And Visiting With Old Friends

By Cynthia Sax on December 15, 2020

Holding Hoarse, my gift to you this year, is the last story in the Cyborg Space Exploration part of the Cyborg Romance Continuum.

There will be many more cyborg stories shared, of course. We still have Power’s explosive story to enjoy. (grins) We’ll be meeting new cyborgs in 2021. I am REALLY looking forward to sharing the next generation’s stories.

But these stories will officially reside in other subseries. (Power’s story is the fifth one in the upcoming Rebel Cyborgs subseries).

Some reading buddies have asked, “Will we see Hoarse and Relay and Surge and all the other cyborg warriors and their females again?”

YES! We will definitely see them when I share the next generation’s stories. Future, Vector and Kasia’s son, will likely have his story told in that subseries, for example. We’ll also briefly hear from many cyborgs during Power’s story in the Rebel Cyborgs subseries. They might also make surprise appearances in other stories.

And, if you are a newsletter subscriber, you always have the ability to request updates for characters. When I have a free slot in the newsletter, I’ll share the update you request. (Let me know if you want to be credited for requesting the update.)

You can visit with these old friends whenever you like. (big hugs)

Holding Hoarse And Rag Dolls

By Cynthia Sax on December 14, 2020

In Holding Hoarse, Hoarse and Arlicia create soft-formed dolls or ulus from new materials. The original rag dolls here on Earth, however, were made from exactly that—rags.

Rags are inexpensive. Everyone has clothing that has worn out.

But they are also meaningful because often those clothes meant something to the maker and to the recipient.

When my Granddad died, for example, my Grandma made simple ragdolls from his worn-out dress shirts and gave them to her then very much grown children. My Awesome Mom still takes out that doll to this day and touches and smells it whenever she is missing her parents.

My craftsy Grandma was also a superb chocolate chip cookie maker. She would make rag dolls from the cloth flour bags. She gave those to all the kids in her life and we loved them.

There are a gazillion ways to make rag dolls. These methods range from simple, fast and easy, requiring very little skills to complicated and time-involving, requiring sewing skills.

I would likely make the ‘body’ larger or the head smaller so the doll is more proportional. I might add hair and/or a handkerchief (using a different colored fabric, tied at the doll’s nape with the same piece of string/elastic).

One of the easiest, quickest, no skills required rag doll my Grandma would make (and we would all love) consisted of…

Forming a ball with some tiny scraps of fabric.

Wrapping a larger piece of fabric around that ‘head’ and securing it with a piece of yarn or string or elastic.

Using a pen or marker to make eyes, a nose, a mouth. (She would add hair and other details if she had the time or energy.)

The rest of the fabric was the body. (She would sometimes layer different fabrics with the palest piece on top and that would make the body fancier.)

Bam. She had a doll to give to a grandchild.

She had also created love.
