Cynthia Sax’s Upcoming Releases
December 2016 – Jumping Barrel – Barrel and Nola’s Story – FREE Cyborg Short Story
Jumping Barrel will be this year’s freebie short story, a thank you from me for supporting the cyborg series. It will be released, as readers requested, at all booksellers. Because it is a short story and it is set on Earth Minor, home of Vapor, Mira, Green, Shelby and the war orphans, it is best enjoyed if you’ve read the series up to and including Crash And Burn.
He requires an Expert. She needs a hero.
Barrel requires an Expert for the Tau Cetian orphans. He’s looking for a female who is willing to commit to a lifespan-long role, who is comfortable with moving off planet, and who, preferably, has the ability to speak the offsprings’ first language.
Nola wants the role Barrel is offering so badly she bends a few truths. Yes, she was born off planet but she has lived almost all of her lifespan in sheltered Academies. Yes, she has learned Tau Cetian but she has never spoken with a local. Yes, she plans to follow the rules but his deep, sexy voice tempts her to rebel.
When a fact-morphing human academic meets her battle-worn cyborg warrior, deceptions are revealed, passions flare, and circuits sizzle. Wrong seems right. Lies turn into truth. The candidate least qualified for the role becomes the one candidate Barrel can’t let go.
Jumping Barrel is a short companion story in the Cyborg Sizzle series and is meant to be read after Releasing Rage, Breathing Vapor and Crash And Burn.
It is also a BBW Cyborg SciFi Romance.
Coming For FREE In December 2016
Note: Amazon doesn’t allow me to list stories for free. I have to list Jumping Barrel for 99 cents and then ask them to price match it to other booksellers. This story was written as a gift for you. Please wait until the price is reduced to ZERO i.e. FREE before ‘buying’ it. Save your dollar for my next release (in February).
February 2017 – Hers To Command – Ace, Thrasher And The Rebel Commander’s Story – Cyborg Romance
Hers To Command, the romance between Ace, Thrasher and a Rebel Commander (MMF), will release in February. This story will feature quite a few returning characters. However, it won’t feature Rage and Joan. They WILL be returning in the next cyborg story (Ghost’s story).
My goal for the cyborg series in 2017 is to release a story every three months.
March 2017 – Dark Thoughts – Kralj’s Story – SciFi Romance
Dark Thoughts is the first story in the 4 story spinoff of the cyborg series. All of these stories will be able to be read on their own. Dark Thoughts features Kralj, the scarred mind-reading male we first met in Chasing Mayhem.
May 2017 – Title To Be Determined – Ghost’s Story – Cyborg Romance
Ghost is the cyborg who saved Joan, the heroine of Releasing Rage, so yes, expect to see Rage and Joan in this story. I can’t say too much more about Ghost’s story except this is one extremely damaged hero.
August 2017 – Title To Be Determined – An Undecided Cyborg’s Story – Cyborg Romance
The next two longer stories in the series will happen during the same time period (during the mass rebellion). I haven’t yet decided which story to tell first.
December 2017 – Knowing Zip – Zip’s Story – Cyborg Romance
This will be the third freebie short story. Zip’s buddies, Green and Barrel, have found their females. Now it is Zip’s turn.
Other Releases
I will be receiving the rights back for many SciFi Romance stories on January 1st, 2017. I will be expanding many of these stories (to tell these stories the way I originally envisioned them) and re-releasing them.
Why You Should Consider Signing Up For My Newsletter
On non-release months, I plan to continue giving you exclusive updates on the cyborgs. At the beginning of the year, I’m focusing on Menace and Ada-971, his clone female.

Jumping Barrel, Sisters And Teachers
Jumping Barrel, a freebie cyborg short story, will be releasing in December. Nola, the heroine of Jumping Barrel, is an Expert. That is what the Humanoid Alliance calls teachers.
This story is a nod to my two sisters. Both of them are teachers and they often talk about the conflict between giving students individual attention that would help them learn easier and faster vs using the recommended general method of teaching to reach as many students as efficiently as possible.
If you’re a reader of the cyborg series, you can probably guess that the Humanoid Alliance doesn’t approve of giving students individual attention. They’re interested in teaching compliance and hold the stance that either beings fit into the system or they’re to be eliminated from it. Permanently.
Nola, in contrast, leans more toward giving students individual attention. She wants to tweak her methods to best benefit each student. This puts her in conflict with the Humanoid Alliance, her employer. When she meets Barrel, our cyborg hero, she has been fired from three teaching positions and is desperate for work.
What is the cyborgs’ stance on education? Cyborgs are half machine. Transferring knowledge for them is as simple as transferring a file. The warriors train merely to perfect more practical skills like fighting. Any knowledge one cyborg gains is shared with all of them. (This is why the cyborgs evolve with each story.) As soon as they are manufactured, they ‘know’ everything.
The issue is Mira and Vapor have been adopting war orphans. These little humanoids don’t have the ability to transfer knowledge. They have to be taught. Barrel takes responsibility for their education and he doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing. (grins)
He decides the best solution is to hire an Expert. He finds Nola.
Interview With Ace And Thrasher And The Cover Reveal For Hers To Command
My buddy Jolie Mason is revealing the cover for Hers To Command, my February cyborg release.
See the cover here: https://joliemasonblog.com/2016/11/04/interview-with-a-cyborg-um-two-cyborgs/
She also interviewed Ace and Thrasher, the two heroes/
Here is a snippet…
Jolie: She sounds perfect.
Thrasher: (nods) She is.
Ace: She won’t process us that way. We’re not perfect. (exchanges a glance with Thrasher) And our Commander seeks vengeance against all cyborgs. They killed her beloved daughter.
Jolie: She believes cyborgs killed her daughter?
Ace: They did kill her daughter. That fact can’t be disputed.
Jolie: Yet she likes you?
Ace: She likes us at this moment. (looks glum)
Thrasher: She doesn’t yet know we’re cyborgs. She might jettison us into space when she finds that out.
Ace: That probability is high.

Wild. Free. Hers.
Mayhem has spent his lengthy lifespan obeying the Humanoid Alliance’s rules. Finally free from their cruel control, the cyborg warrior plans to cause chaos. He infiltrates a remote settlement, provokes the savage locals until they want him dead, and allows himself to be captured by the sexiest little Retriever he has ever laid his mechanically-enhanced eyes on.
Imee’s sole mission in life is to keep her family alive. To do this, she must hunt rebels, returning them to the Humanoid Alliance’s evil clutches where they will be executed. She doesn’t allow herself to feel anything for her targets…until she meets a tall, muscular cyborg with wild hair and even wilder eyes.
With his sure hands, laughing lips and erotic holds, Mayhem makes Imee’s body sizzle and her resistance melt. Their love is doomed. She must deliver the warrior to his death or she’ll place her family’s safety at risk. But she can’t resist him.
Imee soon discovers that Mayhem, life, and love are never predictable.

Cyborgs, Kralj And Next Stories
Many reading buddies have asked me what is next for the cyborgs.
Oh boy, what isn’t next?
Jumping Barrel – December 2016
Barrel’s short story will be releasing for FREE in December. Because it is free, there will be no pre-orders. I’ll send newsletter buddies a newsletter when it is available. I’ll also post the release information here on my blog and on Facebook.
Jumping Barrel is the same length as Being Green, last year’s free story, because I know December is very busy for a lot of folks. It is also lighter in tone.
Theirs To Command – February 2017
The next longer cyborg story is Theirs To Command. This is Ace, Thrasher and the Rebel Commander’s story. Yes, it is a ménage (MMF to be exact).
This story marks the beginning of the mass liberation of the cyborgs. Shit is going down, folks. Expect some action in Theirs To Command.
Ghost’s Story – May 2017
Remember the C Model cyborg who saved Joan? That’s Ghost. He’s still alive…barely, and he has definitely earned his own story. (He’s mentioned in Theirs To Command also).
Vector’s Story – August 2017
Vector, the cyborg Captain of the Freedom, will finally find love…if he allows his female on his precious ship. (grins)
Zip’s Story – December 2017
Zip has seen his friends Green and Barrel find love. It will be his turn in December. This will be another FREE short story. His female is hilarious.
Now, you might be wondering… what about Kralj, the mysterious male from Chasing Mayhem? Will he receive a story?
The Refuge Series
As Kralj isn’t a cyborg, I can’t put his story in the Cyborg Sizzle series. His will be the first story in a new series. The Refuge Series will only be four stories long.
Dark Thoughts –March 2017
This is Kralj’s story. It has the word ‘Dark’ in its title for a reason. The Refuge is a violent, primal, highly sexual place. The inhabitants are the beings other settlements expelled. Kralj is their King.
There will be three other stories, release dates unknown (I want to release them all in 2017 but that might be unrealistic).
Dark Sky is the winged male’s story
Dark Strength is the giant green gatekeeper’s story
Dark Fire is the silver Dracheon warrior’s story
That’s what I have planned, thus far, for the rest of 2016 and all of 2017. I’m super excited about these stories!

Fourth Scene From Chasing Mayhem
Chasing Mayhem, the next cyborg story, is releasing on September 13th (it is available for pre-order now). This week, I’m sharing the final scene in Chapter One.
Read the first scene here: http://tasteofcyn.com/2016/08/15/first-scene-from-chasing-mayhem/
His female was stunning, more beautiful than anyone or anything he’d ever seen. She had uniquely shaped brown eyes, her eyelids lacking the useless crease his had. Her skin was golden and glistened with a layer of sweat, her thermoregulation system not as efficient as a cyborg’s. Her hair was as straight as a thrown spear and as black as open space. A long scar carved her left cheek in two. RET56927 was inked under her right eye.
She wasn’t a cyborg. He’d be able to detect that.
But she had been the property of the Humanoid Alliance. His scan revealed one of their tracking devices in her right wrist.
Mayhem ran the numbering sequence through his database.
His nose wrinkled at the distasteful results.
His female was a Retriever. She did the Humanoid Alliance’s dirty work, hunting down and capturing rebels, beings such as himself, males, females, offspring who had thought themselves finally free of tyranny, of torture, of other being’s rules.
Those rebels would be sentenced to death, sent to the cyborg manufacturing compounds and used as part of that harsh training. His brethren would be forced to kill them, to battle the humanoids in the fighting rings.
Imee was the enemy, a being without loyalty or honor.
She was his female, Mayhem reminded himself. When he chose to claim her, her past wouldn’t matter. He’d take her back to the cyborg Homeland and neither of them would ever leave.
She’d never again associate with the Humanoid Alliance. He’d never again explore unknown terrain, never battle another warrior to the death.
That safe, uneventful future depressed him.
For now, they were both free, on a strange planet, facing one another as possible foes, not as a male and his female. Mayhem would enjoy his remaining moments to the fullest, delay the inevitable for as long as possible.
Imee glanced at the helmet he’d set on the sand, looked in his direction, and squinted. Although she couldn’t see him—her human vision was inadequate to pierce the darkness— she felt his presence.
Satisfaction warmed Mayhem’s soul. Imee would experience that awareness with no other male. She’d remember it and wouldn’t be tempted to breed with others while they were parted. Humans weren’t monogamous as cyborgs were.
The thought of her touching another male disturbed him. It was one of the only possible holes in his plan.
“They couldn’t have moved it,” she murmured, her words spoken at a softness no human could detect. “Could they?”
Mayhem heard her but he didn’t answer her question. He waited for her next move, for her to come to him, to track him.
Imee cautiously stepped out of the corridor of stone, revealing her entire body, and his big cyborg heart pounded. She was diminutive yet sturdy, a sheath-sized stunner.
All of the females the other cyborgs had claimed were tiny. They were human. But they’d appear tall, standing next to his female. She barely reached midway on his chest.
Imee wasn’t inconsequential, however. Far from that. She had broad shoulders and equally wide hips, muscular arms and legs. Between her white leather breast and ass coverings was a bared toned stomach, the exposed golden skin decorated with small silver scars, the firmness of her midsection contrasting intriguingly with her high full breasts.
She was armed, guns on both hips, daggers in her knee-high boots, at least one more blade hidden in her breast covering. Restraints dangled from her waist. A long gun was held in her right hand.
Mayhem liked that. She was a fighter. When he claimed her, she’d understand him, challenge him, perhaps provide some much needed excitement during their captivity on the Homeland.
She certainly was adding excitement to his lifespan now.
Imee approached the helmet, gazed around her, scrunched her nose. Her fingers rested on the trigger of the long gun. She pushed the helmet with the barrel, stepped back, raised the long gun.
When nothing happened, she rolled, scooped up the helmet, put it back on her head as she stood once more, her booted feet braced apart, her knees slightly bent.
His female was ready to face danger.
Mayhem’s lips curled upward.
He was eager to supply it.

Chasing Mayhem And The SFRB Showcase
See other great SciFi romance posts here – http://sfrcontests.blogspot.ca/p/sfr-brigade-presents.html
Chasing Mayhem, the 6th story in the cyborg series, releases on September 13th. I’m sharing scenes from the first chapter on Mondays ( you can start reading the first chapter here: http://tasteofcyn.com/2016/08/15/first-scene-from-chasing-mayhem/ ) but I thought I’d give you a bonus scene today.
“I’m to escort you to the Refuge.” Her declaration echoed off the walls of rock. Once Kralj, the leader of that settlement, granted her permission, she’d return the two males to the Humanoid Alliance, collect her credits.
“I won’t be entering the Refuge.” The mystery male’s low deep voice skittered down her spine and coiled within her womb.
He was the one watching her. She knew that in her gut. Where was the other one?
Imee stared in the male’s direction, unable to see anything. “You have to accompany me.”
“I’m free. I no longer have to do anything.”
“I’m not giving you a choice.” She lifted her long gun.
One moment, she was holding the weapon. The next moment, her hands were empty.
“What happened?” All she’d seen was a blur, large, dark, moving quickly, and then nothing. He’d disappeared, fading back into the shadows, taking her gun with him. “Who are you?”
The male chuckled, the sound making her stomach flutter. “Others call me Mayhem. You may call me your male.”
“You’re not my male.” And she wouldn’t ever use his name.
That was another one of Kralj’s rules. Don’t call targets by their names. View them as anonymous beings. That made sending them to their deaths easier.
“What are you?” She wanted to know the type of being she was facing.
“Before the sun sets, I’ll hear my name on your sweet lips.” He ignored her question, issuing her a challenge.
It was a challenge she’d win.
“That won’t happen.” She glanced to the left and to the right, seeing nothing except sand, shadow, and white rock. “Where is the other male?”
“He’s not for you.”
“You’re not for me.” Imee rolled her eyes. “Kralj insists I escort the two of you to the Refuge. The other male–”
“Isn’t here.”
Then the other male was dead. No being disobeyed her mentor and lived to talk about it. “Kralj will see that as a sign of disrespect.” Disrespect was contagious, her mentor often told her. It couldn’t be tolerated. “He’ll kill your friend.”
“He’ll try to.” The male, her sole remaining target, didn’t sound concerned. “Menace isn’t easy to kill.”
Her target and his soon-to-be-dead friend were called Mayhem and Menace. What species had their skills and that type of naming convention? Imee dredged the depths of her memories. No species she’d been exposed to fit those perimeters.
“You don’t know whom you’re dealing with,” she cautioned.
If he mouthed off to Kralj, he’d die also and a dead target wasn’t worth anything to the Humanoid Alliance. She’d earn no credits by returning a corpse. Imee had learned that the first solar cycle.
“I’m not scared of your Kralj.” Her target scoffed at her warning.
“Then you’re a fool.” Kralj ruled the Refuge with violence and strength. Nothing happened near its walls without his approval. He had powers Imee couldn’t fully comprehend.
The male in the shadows could be as dangerous.
“My processors are highly advanced, my female.”
Imee frowned. “Your processors?” What manner of being was he?
Metal flashed in the darkness, light reflecting off a dagger’s blade. “Catch me and I’ll accompany you.”
She was the best Retriever in the galaxy. Catching targets was her sole purpose and the only reason her family remained alive.
The overconfident male would lose his challenge.

Second Scene From Chasing Mayhem
Chasing Mayhem, the next cyborg story, is releasing on September 13th (it is available for pre-order now). Last week, I shared the first scene. This week, I’m sharing the second.
Read the first scene here: http://tasteofcyn.com/2016/08/15/first-scene-from-chasing-mayhem/
“Stay by your ship. I’ll send a being to escort you to our gates.”
“I volunteer for that duty, Kralj.” A female joined the conversation, her voice stroking over Mayhem’s balls and hardening his cock.
He straightened in his seat, his circuits humming with awareness, his stomach twisting with dread. There was only one being who’d have that impact on him.
Mayhem stifled a curse. He wasn’t ready to meet his female, not yet.
“You want him, Imee?” the male, Kralj, asked. “You don’t know what he is.”
“They’re targets. That’s all I need to know,” the female, Imee, murmured at auditory levels no human could overhear. Mayhem wasn’t human, however. He heard every word. “They escaped the Humanoid Alliance. They’re flying one of their ships. The Humanoid Alliance will want the males back and will reward me handsomely for that.”
“I haven’t given you permission to retrieve him.” Kralj made no attempt to hide his communications.
“Them,” she corrected. “And you will.” Her confidence made Mayhem smile. She was a strong female, accustomed to getting her own way.
The male made a non-committal noise. “Imee will meet you at your ship, warriors. I recommend that both of you remain there.”
The communication line closed.
Mayhem and Menace looked at each other.
“We’re not remaining here.” Menace was the first to speak. “We’ll climb over the walls, enter the settlement unannounced, search the grounds, and leave before that Kralj being realizes we’ve been there.”
“Two warriors aren’t required for the search.” Once they were within close proximity, a cyborg could sense another cyborg’s presence. “One of us should stay with the ship and ensure Imee, our escort, doesn’t salvage it for parts.”
Mayhem wouldn’t breed with his female, not yet, not until he’d had a few more adventures, explored a few more planets.
But he wanted to meet her, wanted to see if the rest of her was as appealing as her voice, as her take-no-prisoners attitude.
“I’m not sitting around the ship, playing guard duty.” Menace snorted. “Searching the settlement was my idea.”
“You had the idea but do you have the skills to complete the mission?” Mayhem argued out of habit. He wasn’t interested in the search-the-settlement assignment. Imee was his mission. He grasped the container of semi-permanent stain set on the console, the material cool against his fingers. “Scaling the walls unseen requires stealth.”
“Frag you.” His friend’s eyes glittered with humor. “My stealth abilities equal yours and I have the higher kill rate.”
“Because I gave you that last kill on Tau Ceti.” Mayhem dipped two fingers into the container and dragged his fingertips across each of his cheekbones, enjoying the primitiveness of the marking.
“You missed that last kill. You didn’t give me anything.”
“I’m giving you this.” He tossed Menace the container. “Cover your model number.”
“Which was, again, my idea.” The warrior did as he was ordered. The black marks on each of his cheeks made him appear as savage as the beings they’d soon interact with.
“You chatter about so many ideas. One of them is bound to be good.” Mayhem teased his friend.
“I had two good ideas this planet rotation alone.”
“Isn’t that your record?”
“Ha.” Menace rolled his eyes. “As usual, you’re focusing on the wrong issue. I can complete the search mission. There’s zero doubt about that. The more critical question is, ‘Can you safeguard our ship from the female?’” His voice lilted with humor. “She sounds formidable.”
She sounded sexy as all frag. Mayhem stood, eager to see the female named Imee. “She could be formidable.” He ran his hands over his weapons, ensuring his daggers remained in his body sheaths and his guns were in his holsters. “Unlike a certain arrogant ass, I don’t underestimate the enemy.”
“Unlike a certain arrogant ass with a higher kill rate and numerous great ideas, you must have meant to say.” His friend laughed. “Try not to get yourself shot this time.”
“Is that reminder for yourself?” Mayhem swaggered toward the exit. “Because if I recall correctly and, being a cyborg, I always recall correctly, you were the last warrior to get himself shot.”
“I was stunned.” The warrior followed him.
“Still counts.”
“I didn’t think Death would pull the trigger.”
Death had tried to stop them from following him, the stubborn male. Like they’d allow him to have all the fun. “You should have known he would. I would stun you any opportunity I could.”
“Which is why you’re exiting the ship first.”
“I’m exiting first because I’m the superior warrior.” A blast of hot, dry air hit Mayhem’s face as he left the confines of the ship. His systems immediately adjusted to the change in conditions. He’d battled opponents in brighter lit, hotter terrain. The Humanoid Alliance often sent cyborgs into battlefields humans refused to fight in.
“You’re the superior warrior?” Menace scoffed. “Are your processors malfunctioning?”
They must be. I’m communicating with you. He switched the conversation to their private transmission line and scanned the area around them.
It was devoid of lifeforms.

Mayhem has spent his lengthy lifespan obeying the Humanoid Alliance’s rules. Finally free from their cruel control, the cyborg warrior plans to cause chaos.

First Scene From Chasing Mayhem
Chasing Mayhem, the next cyborg story, is releasing on September 13th (it is available for pre-order now) and I’ll be sharing the first chapter over the next few weeks.
Mayhem was free.
Since the planet rotation he had been manufactured, he’d been forced to follow other beings’ commands, to adhere to an order he found unnatural. He had finally escaped the Humanoid Alliance’s cruel control, and he planned to create chaos.
He planned to create it on the small planet of Carinae E.
With Menace’s assistance, he guided the ship they’d stolen downward. White sand swirled below them, eddies of grit pinging against the metal underbody. Carinae E was unmonitored, sparsely populated, and thrillingly uncivilized.
Anything could happen.
“We should have buzzed the settlement’s watchtower.” Excitement coursed through his circuits. “That would have gotten Death’s attention.”
“Death might not have landed on Carinae E.” Menace, his friend and partner in this latest escapade, resembled him in many ways. He had the same dark-brown hair, dark-brown eyes, tanned skin. His model number was inked on his cheek and he wore the Humanoid-Alliance-issued black body armor. They were both highly trained warriors.
But they weren’t clones. There were differences between them, slight but significant. Menace’s hair was cropped short. It wasn’t as spiky and wild as Mayhem’s was.
He also didn’t share Mayhem’s appreciation for the randomness of the universe.
“Death’s female is human.” Mayhem shrugged. “He has to stop somewhere and replenish the nourishment bars she requires.”
Cyborgs could utilize the input tubes built into their ships, inserting those energy and nourishment feeds into their wrist interfaces. Humans didn’t have that capability.
“He should have returned to the Homeland,” Menace grumbled.
Most cyborgs who had found their females returned to the Homeland or other cyborg-controlled space, to the many rules and restrictions there. Females compatible with cyborgs were rare, a fluke of genetics tying a warrior to one particular female. Those ‘lucky’ enough to find their females protected them, and the best place to do that was on the Homeland.
Mayhem had no desire to ever voyage to the Homeland and he had no interest in finding his female. He enjoyed being free, having no responsibilities.
Assisting Death with protecting his female wasn’t truly a responsibility. It was merely an excuse to join him on his adventure.
Death was one of the best warriors in the galaxy. He could protect one small human female.
“He could have returned to the Homeland. We don’t know.” Mayhem loved the uncertainty of their mission. Yes, Death’s ship had been tracked to this sector and yes, Carinae E was the only planet in the sector containing life, but the cyborg and his female could have already left, moving to the next planet, the next unknown.
It was a big glorious galaxy filled with unexplored terrain and unfamiliar beings.
“If this piece-of-debris ship could distinguish cyborgs from humanoids, we’d know if he was here.” Menace smacked the console with his palm. “Our search would be over in mere moments.”
They could scan the settlement without landing on the surface.
“What would be the fun in that?” The floor shuddered under Mayhem’s booted feet as the ship touched down. He cut the engines and removed his hands from the control panel. “While searching, we can mix with the locals. Some are bound to be violent and–”
“All beings within the Refuge are under my protection.” A voice crackled over the ship’s communications system. “There’s no killing without my authorization.”
Mayhem stared at the distorted image appearing on the main viewscreen. He had planned to make a comment about killing, a task cyborgs were designed to do, a task many of them thoroughly enjoyed.
Who is he and how did he access our ship’s systems? Menace asked using their private transmission line. We blocked all incoming communications.
They were cyborgs, half organic, half machine. No being should be able to break that block.
Mayhem tried to unscramble the image and was unable to. That was another testament to the male’s skills.
“Your friend and his female aren’t in the settlement,” the unknown male informed him, using the universal language. “But you’re welcome to search it, providing you follow our rules.”
Frag that. Mayhem was done with following rules. “How do you know who we’re looking for?”
Had Death and his female been captured by the Carinae? Is that how the male knew about them?
Death was one of their best warriors but there were rumors of genetic enhancements and cloning on Carinae E. It was possible to modify a humanoid until his or her skills in battle rivaled a cyborg’s.
“I know everything.” The male’s tone was arrogant.

One And Done – Seventh Scene
One And Done is releasing on July 19th (it is available for pre-order now) and I’m sharing the first two chapters of this 300 page plus contemporary erotic romance.
Read the first scene here: http://tasteofcyn.com/2016/06/06/one-and-done-first-scene/
Mr. Sheridan tucks my curves into his hard muscle, leaving no space between us, and steers me into the club. Dance music pulses, an almost frenzied beat assaulting my ears, causing my heart to pound faster. Seizure-inducing strobe lights flicker.
“Thank you for that,” I yell, seeking to be heard above the music. “I really appreciate your help getting into your club.”
“The appreciation is all mine, baby,” Mr. Sheridan pours these words into my ear, exciting my already primed-for-sex body. “Now, let’s get drunk and make some bad decisions.”
I blink, once, twice, three times. That almost sounds as though he’s hitting on me. But he can’t be. His lines are too cheesy and I’m…well…I’m plus-sized, average me. “That’s a good one.” I grin. “Or should I say a bad one?”
Lines appear between Mr. Sheridan’s black eyebrows.
“I won’t take up more of your time.” I pat his arm, ignoring the sparks skittering along my fingers. “I can find my boyfriend on my own.”
“The boyfriend must be real then.” The caramel-colored specks fade from his eyes. “Fuck. Because a sexy woman like you wouldn’t be single.”
“Right.” I laugh, enjoying his sense of humor. “My boyfriend’s name is Edward.”
Mr. Sheridan doesn’t say anything, doesn’t indicate that he knows an Edward.
I search the crowd for my man. Bodies bump and grind, the girls clad in next to nothing, the guys in mostly black. It amazes me that all of these people are here on a Thursday night. Don’t they have to work tomorrow?
“I went to his office. He’s a lawyer.” The words spill out of my mouth, unfiltered by my brain. “But he wasn’t there. The app on his phone said he was here.”
“Edward?” Mr. Sheridan’s lips brush against my earlobe and another wave of sensation flows down my spine. He smells of spicy rosemary and woodsy nutmeg, an intriguing combination of scents.
Guilt sweeps over me. I shouldn’t be sniffing a stranger. I’m in a committed relationship. “Edward Langston.” I try to draw away from Mr. Sheridan. He won’t allow me to move, tightening his clasp on my hip. “He’s a lawyer.”
“You already said that.” Mr. Sheridan’s tone is dry. “You also said he was your boyfriend. Does he know you’re here?”
“No, he doesn’t,” I admit. “I wanted to surprise him.”
“Fuck. You’ll certainly do that.”
What does that mean? We push through dual doors and enter a smaller room. The irritating music fades to a more manageable level. The dizzying strobe lighting stops. Thin, beautiful, bored-looking people stand around the space, drinks in their hands.
“Lucy, ask Eddy and his guest to join us.” Mr. Sheridan addresses a petite, redheaded beauty. “The rest of you fuck off.” He waves his hand, dismissing them.
The occupants gaze at me with wide, curiosity-filled eyes as they exit the room, not one person protesting the club owner’s highhanded treatment. It must be nice to wield that type of power.
“Edward doesn’t like to be called Eddy.” I don’t know why I’m sharing this with him. Nerves, perhaps.
“And you’re sure you know what he likes?” Mr. Sheridan says this as though it is in doubt. It isn’t. We’ve been together for four years. “Let me take your coat.” He pulls the garment from my fingers and I reluctantly release it. “You’ll want your hands to be free.” He drapes the coat over a barstool. “When you see your Edward.”
I hear the derision in the club owner’s tone. “Edward is a great lawyer.” I defend my boyfriend. “I don’t know if he’s already representing you. He can’t share that with me due to client confidentiality. But if he is, you won’t regret it. He’ll fight to the death for you.”
Mr. Sheridan tilts his head, studying me. His left collar is slightly curled, marring the perfection of his outfit. My fingers twitch, the impulse to smooth it tremendous.
The man is unaware of his dishevelment. “The average woman, when she finds out her fuckin’ boyfriend went to a club and didn’t tell her, would assume he’s cheating, not that he’s here on business.”
This brings a smile to my lips. “Edward wouldn’t cheat on me. He loves me.”
“You have faith in this love?”
“Of course, I have faith in it.” My gaze returns to his collar. Unable to resist the urge to straighten it, I reach up and run my fingers over the material, setting it to rights. “That’s what love is—believing in another person, trusting him or her with your heart, your dreams, your tomorrows.”
“And if that faith is misplaced?” The agony and loss reflecting in Mr. Sheridan’s eyes captivates me. He’s been hurt, this handsome, world-weary man. “If your love isn’t returned?”
“Then it isn’t truly love.” I curve my right palm over his left cheek, wanting to touch him, to comfort him. He flinches but doesn’t pull away. “You try again. I experienced some false starts before I met Edward.”
“You gave up on those men.” The bitterness and pain in Mr. Sheridan’s voice tugs at my heart.
“They gave up on me,” I admit.
One of my university boyfriends moved to Silicon Valley, made a gazillion dollars and married an alpaca-obsessed, blonde nymph. The other guy is saving the world in Africa. More specifically, he’s building sewage systems. I joke that he’d rather be waist-deep in shit than continue to date me.
“I’m not the best at letting go.” I send both of my exes e-Cards every Christmas. “I tend to hold on too long, trying to make relationships work.”
Mr. Sheridan isn’t my man to comfort. I shouldn’t be touching him.
I drop my hand.
The club owner catches my wrist. “Not everyone has the same faith in love as you do.”
“True.” I summon a smile, focusing on the present and not on the lonely past. “Edward has the same faith as I do. He loves me.”
“So you tell me.”
We stand a breath apart, Mr. Sheridan holding my wrist.
He rubs small circles into my skin with his thumb, round and round. I gaze up at him, enthralled. The moment stretches, stretches, stretches.
I love Edward. I do. But this is interesting, different.
Mr. Sheridan looks at the door and then at me and then back to the door. His lips move soundlessly as though he’s debating something with himself.
“Fuck.” His gaze returns to my face. “As much as I want you, baby, I can’t watch him hurt you like this.” He releases my wrist and grabs my coat. “I’ll talk to Edward, send him home to you.”
Why would Edward hurt me? “There’s no need to send him home.” I don’t want to mess up his business meeting. “I’m already here.”
“You shouldn’t be here.” Mr. Sheridan turns me toward the doors. “You have to leave.”
Voices chatter outside the room, growing louder.
“But—”
“Now.” The club owner shoves me forward.
I recognize one of those voices. “Edward is coming.”

He wants one night. I want forever.
Hit it and quit it—that’s Smoke Sheridan’s relationship philosophy. The tall, dark, and dangerous club owner never spends more than one night with any woman. He seduces the broken-hearted, leaving them with smiles on their faces and a sexual confidence other men can’t resist.
I need his services.
My boyfriend of four years dumped me because I’m a lousy lay. Smoke can help me win him back, teach me how to make my man writhe in ecstasy. I’ll show him such bliss, he’ll bellow my name in the dark of the night, want me with an all-consuming desire.
This sounds like a great plan. Except I see the loneliness in Smoke’s eyes, feel the wistfulness in his touch, experience the wanting in his embrace. The player isn’t as shallow as he appears.
And I’ve never been good at letting go.
One And Done contains inappropriate humor, very bad pickup lines, a BBW heroine who doesn’t know what she’s doing and a player who thinks he does.
This is a standalone story.
