Interview With Amanda Young

By Cynthia Sax on July 22, 2014

I sat down (virtually) with Amanda Young for a short interview. Amanda Young’s latest release is GWM Wanted, a contemporary MM romance.

Cynthia Sax: Where did you get the idea for GWM Wanted?

Amanda Young: Actually the idea for GWM Wanted came from a discussion between members of my family about keeping the spice in a long term relationship. I wanted to write a story about what happens to characters after the bloom has faded a little. Keeping the love alive is just as important, if not more so, than falling in love to begin with, and I wanted to show that in a way that illustrated the insecurities and fears of couple who still love each other but have let themselves drift apart over time.

Cynthia Sax: What causes problems between Mark and Sam?

Amanda Young: The couple in GWM Wanted, Mark and Sam are in a rut. They’ve been together for years and are starting to grow apart. In an effort to spice things up, they look into arranging a threesome with a stranger. The internal conflict comes from Sam and Mark’s insecurities. The external conflict comes from the stranger and what he plans to do to them once he weasels his way into their life and home.

Cynthia Sax: What one piece of advice would you give new writers?

Amanda Young: My best advice to new writers would be to write the story they’d want to read rather than pandering to whatever the hot new trend is. Chances are unless you write at lightning speed, by the time you get that story completed, submitted, and released the trend will be over and you’ll be left with a story no one wants to read. For example, if mermaids are hot this year but you’ve always wanted to write a story about unicorn shifters, then go with the unicorns. You never know when you’re bright idea might be the next big thing.

Cynthia Sax: What do you love about writing contemporary MM romance?

Amanda Young:
What’s not to like? I get to write stories about people falling in love. The only thing better than writing about people falling in love is experiencing it for yourself and I’ve already done that. I met my forever love at sixteen and our marriage is still going strong fifteen years later.

Thank you, Amanda Young, for joining us today!

Interview With Kate Hill

By Cynthia Sax on July 18, 2014

I sat down (virtually) with Kate Hill for a short interview. Kate Hill’s latest release is Storm Stallion, an erotic paranormal.

Cynthia Sax: What makes Ivan so freakin’ sexy?

Kate Hill: Other than being a handsome stud (he’s a shapeshifting winged centaur), Ivan is protective of those he loves. He enjoys taking care of others, especially the woman in his life. There’s nothing sexier than a guy who isn’t afraid to show love for his family and Ivan is definitely that kind of guy.

Cynthia Sax: Where did you get the idea for Storm Stallion?

Kate Hill: Ivan and Bala were secondary characters in Mystery Stallion. They appeared throughout the entire story, but didn’t actually meet each other until the end. After writing their first scene together, I knew I had to give them a story of their own.

Cynthia Sax: What makes Ivan and Bala right for each other?

Kate Hill: They both want the same things in a relationship. They love having a family life and they enjoy being together in the bedroom and out. Ivan and Bala truly love making a home for their daughter and each other.

Cynthia Sax: What creates problems between Ivan and Bala?

Kate Hill:
When Ivan and Bala first met, she had recently lost her first husband. Bala was prepared to follow him to an early grave, but Ivan literally swooped in and rescued her from a fiery death. Though for Ivan it was love at first sight, he didn’t push for romance because he knew Bala was still in love with her first husband. Eventually she realizes that she would like more than friendship with Ivan, but she is plagued by guilt about finding love a second time. To keep from hurting each other, they’re not completely honest about their feelings regarding her first husband and it strains their relationship. Only when danger strikes do they realize–possibly too late–the depth of their love for each other.

Thank you, Kate Hill, for joining us today!

Interview With Tina Donahue

By Cynthia Sax on July 17, 2014

I sat down (virtually) with Tina Donahue for a short interview. Tina Donahue’s latest release is This Time When We Touch, an Erotic paranormal.

Cynthia Sax: What excites you about This Time When We Touch?

Tina Donahue: I’ve always loved the idea of reincarnation, especially when it brings lovers back together. In This Time When We Touch, fate has repeatedly and cruelly separated Jade and Patrick for centuries. Since this is their last reincarnation, the stakes are impossibly high for Jade to break the deadly pattern and to have Patrick’s love for a lifetime. Heady, romantic stuff.

Cynthia Sax: What is your favorite line from This Time When We Touch?

Tina Donahue: It has to be when Patrick sees Jade at the beach for the first time. In this reincarnation they haven’t met. Technically, they’re strangers…yet they’re not. As their eyes meet, a rush of tenderness and love floods him. Patrick doesn’t understand it. Since his presence in Jade’s life has always led to her death in the past, he unconsciously fights his memory of her and their enduring love in order to protect her. Not that he can fully resist. Driven to be near her, he finally asks, “Who are you?”

There’s wonder, hope and sadness in that one question, which makes it my favorite line.

Cynthia Sax: Where did you get the idea for This Time When We Touch?

Tina Donahue: I was watching a remake of H. G. Wells The Time Machine on cable. I was taken with the hero’s desire to return in time so he could save the woman he loves from death. No matter how he tried to change fate, she still died. That really stuck with me and the idea for This Time When We Touch was born.

Cynthia Sax: What one piece of advice would you give new writers?

Tina Donahue:
Outside of don’t ever give up, I’d have to say – don’t think it’s easy. I’ve known so many newbies who honestly believe all they have to do is slap a story together, put it on Amazon and they’ll hit all the lists. That happens once in a blue moon. Writing is hard. Writing romance is even harder. I’ve heard so many critics say that it’s only romance. Sure. Why don’t they try to get emotions down on paper and make readers feel what the characters are experiencing. It’s the hardest thing in the world to accomplish. Sometimes there don’t seem to be enough words to convey what I want to say. I have no trouble writing humor. I can do it in my sleep. No trouble plotting, piece of cake. Creating action scenes, building suspense, writing dialogue is second nature to me. But digging deep into a character’s soul, having emotional build, getting readers to laugh, cry, shout in frustration or anger and sigh in relief with your characters is freaking hard.

Cynthia Sax: SO true, Tina! Relaying emotional is dang difficult!

Thank you, Tina Donahue, for joining us today!

Interview With Madeline Pryce

By Cynthia Sax on July 11, 2014

I sat down (virtually) with Madeline Pryce for a short interview. Madeline Pryce’s latest release is Dark Secrets, a sexy Paranormal.

Cynthia Sax: How does Dark Secrets start?

Madeline Pryce: Dark Secrets picks up two months after the close of Dark Cravings where she was put through the ringer. The opening scene represents a culmination of events that finally pushes Ella over the edge…

A swirling mass of orange and red flames cut through the air, the sound of its approach deafening. I narrowed my gaze, shutting out everything except the firebomb hurling in my direction. Time slowed. Oxygen vaporized into thick, curling strands of smoke. Heat waves wrapped around the outside of the blazing inferno barreling ever closer.

I should be doing so many things right now. Years as a lethal killing machine afforded me the training I needed to protect myself. Ducking, phazing…hell, even something as simple as a side-shuffle to the left would have saved my ass.

Except I didn’t move. Instead, I had a complete and total what the fuck moment. Our routine training session had just taken a complete one-eighty in the wrong direction. Micah McGregor, my half-demon lover, had just thrown a fireball at my head. Holy crap. Since when had he been able to conjure flames out of thin-freakin’-air? Knowing he was a demon and actually seeing it were two very different things. Proof that his demonic powers were manifesting lay in the ribbons of black magic twisting from the starburst pattern embedded into his palm.

Cynthia Sax: Does a character in Dark Secrets have a secret?

Madeline Pryce: Dark Secrets – as the title indicates – is all about the secrets we keep from the ones we care about. Ella isn’t the only one withholding information. As the book unfolds – one secret after another is revealed, pulling the readers deeper into the plot and series arc.

Cynthia Sax: Is Dark Secrets a series and will you be writing more stories in this series?

Madeline Pryce: Dark Secrets is the second full-length book in the Dark series. The first book, Dark Cravings, released from Ellora’s Cave in Dec 2013. The main series follows Ella and Micah with some novella interludes for the side characters. There is also another spin off 3-book series contracted by Ellora’s Cave that will start publishing next year in 2015. One thing you can expect from the Dark series is pulse-pounding action, gritty action, witty dialogue and some smokin’ hot sex scenes.

Series Reading Order
Dark Cravings (#1 Ella/Micah – 85k)
Dark Innocence (#1.5 Hannah – 45k)
Dark Secrets (#2 Ella/Micah – 85k)
Dark Vengeance (#2.5 Castro – 45k) – release date coming soon!
Dark Promises (#3 Ella/Micah) – Spring 2015

Cynthia Sax: What one piece of advice would you give new writers?

Madeline Pryce:
This is a question I get a lot. The best thing any new writer can do is write. And read. Read tons and tons of fiction books, study the wording, how the sentences are constructed and what techniques the author uses to foreshadow and reveal the plot. The more you write, the more naturally it will come (most times, LOL). Next, get yourself a good critique partner – check out writing forms. The ability to take a critique and learn from it and use it to enhance your novel is a valuable skill. Don’t ever give up, just keep trying and writing.

Thank you, Madeline Pryce, for joining us today!

Everything with Micah is passion, excitement and an uncontrollable desire to explore his body in a variety of very satisfying ways. But as buried secrets, ongoing lies and murderous deceptions pile up, Ella is reminded that she and Micah’s relationship was based on a curse. Interview With Paige Matthews

By Cynthia Sax on July 2, 2014

I sat down (virtually) with Paige Matthews for a short interview. Paige Matthews’s latest release is Dominate Me, a sexy BDSM.

Cynthia Sax: What excites you about Dominate Me?

Paige Matthews: I believe the thing that excites me the most about this story is that it was my favorite to write so far. The premise was one that I really enjoyed streching myself and my writing ability. The story has drama, sex, fun one liners and of course a happy ending!

Cynthia Sax: What creates conflict between your characters?

Paige Matthews: There are a few different factors that create conflict between the characters (btw-there are 3 main characters) including, secret pasts, inability to express ones self and the fact that an ex-lover returns with his life in danger. That always adds a few chapters of conflict, LOL. Seriously though, conflict is drawn from the alpha male’s inability to recitify his pasts and feelings that he harbours including his unwillingness to tell the heroine about it.

Cynthia Sax: What one piece of advice would you give new writers?

Paige Matthews: The biggest piece of advice that I would give new writers is to never give up. The publishing world can be harsh, but you need to let half of it roll off your back and continue on with what you enjoy. The more you read in and out of your genre and the more you write, the better you get. Another piece of advice is to have a team behind you. Meaning, make sure you have a competent editor, a cover designer and you are willing to spend hours on social media to build your folowing, whether or not you are traditionally published or self-published.

Cynthia Sax: What do you love about writing BDSM?

Paige Matthews:
I love, love, love writing the BDSM subgenre. Besides it being sexy and full of sex, I enjoy putting a plot behind the sex. The purpose of my writings, and what I hope to get across to my readers, is the emotional aspect of the relationships, the feelings and thoughts that the characters have. I enjoy diving into their pysche to help readers and the general public understand the parts of BDSM that they do not necessarily understand. BDSM sub genre has gained a tremendous amount of publicity since FSOG, but not many know the true nature behind the lifestyle and what it is that a person gets from it.

Interview With J.K. Coi

By Cynthia Sax on June 30, 2014

I sat down (virtually) with J.K. Coi for a short interview. J.K. Coi is a dear friend of mine, a wonderful person and a gifted writer. Her latest release is In Bed with the Competition, a sexy Contemporary.

Cynthia Sax: What makes your Ben, your hero, so freakin’ sexy?

J.K. Coi: Ben is confident and smart – OMG so smart. He wears these reading glasses when he’s working that just make you want to drool because they’re so nerdy that they’re somehow uber hot. And yet he can totally rock a business suit like nobody’s…uh…business and still look fantastic and chiseled in nothing but a swimming trunk. He’s quick to smile and loves to tease, but he also has a deep heart.

Cynthia Sax: That’s PUNtastic! (grins) What excites you about In Bed with the Competition?

J.K. Coi: I love the back-and-forth between these characters. They really challenge each other, and their story challenged me to give them an adventure!

Cynthia Sax: What is your favorite line from In Bed with the Competition and why?

J.K. Coi: Well, I like this little snippet of a few short lines because it’s fun, but also sexy and intense, which is exactly what my two characters are like when they’re together! *grin*

“We have to be careful about cavorting with the enemy,” Beth murmured.

He stepped closer. “Is that what we are?”

“What? Enemies?” Her gaze fixed on his mouth, and he watched as she pulled her bottom lip between her teeth. He’d been waiting for that all night.

He pulled her against him. “No…cavorting.”

Cynthia Sax: What creates conflict between Ben and Beth?

J.K. Coi:
Ben and Beth have a past, but now they’re also each other’s biggest business competitor. Each of them are attending this industry convention in Antigua looking to snag a big opportunity that could make or break their careers.

Interview With Tina Donahue

By Cynthia Sax on June 25, 2014

I sat down (virtually) with Tina Donahue for a short interview. Tina Donahue’s latest release is Taking Eve, an Erotic paranormal – past life regression – with BDSM elements.

Cynthia Sax: What excites you about Taking Eve?

Tina Donahue: I’ve had this idea in my head for a long time about a contemporary woman who willingly engaged in bondage and submission in a previous life. I love the back and forth between the present and the past. How the hero and heroine’s passion endured throughout time. I always want to keep readers turning the pages, and by moving from the present to the past and back again, I found myself eager to learn what happens next.

Cynthia Sax: What is your favorite line from Taking Eve?

Tina Donahue: I know you…you know me.

Faith is thinking this as the story begins when she sees Colin for the first time. In their former lives she was Eve and he was Anthony, the noble Master she craves. Before their eyes meet, you can feel the tension within her. She senses he’s her lover from times past. Then when their gazes finally touch that thought – I know you…you know me is in her mind. Very powerful.

Cynthia Sax: Where does Taking Eve start?

Tina Donahue: I like to begin my stories with a solid hook. In the case of Taking Eve I had to begin the narrative in the present and let Colin, who’s a hypnotherapist specializing in past-life regression, lead Faith to the past. I began the story as Faith has reached his office. She’s seen his pictures in advertisements and realizes he’s the man she’s been dreaming about. This sets the stage for their current attraction and the question of what happened the first time they were lovers.

Cynthia Sax: Where is Taking Eve set?

Tina Donahue:
During her past life regressions, Faith returns to Victorian England, a hidden manor referred to as the House of Lords. There nobles bid on and take her each night. The setting is opulent, the activities smoking hot.

Thank you, Tina Donahue, for joining us today!

Tina Donahue’s Website: http://www.tinadonahue.com/

A willing slave to possession, punishment, pleasure…

Dreams of a manor where submission and dominance once ruled draw Faith to hypnotherapist Colin Danes. Potently virile, he looks remarkably like her most cherished master from a past life. Desire smolders in his eyes, proving he’s never forgotten her.

Their carnal dance continues in the present and leads to their past when she was known as Eve. Through hypnotherapy, Colin brings her back to the Victorian era, a hidden estate where she eagerly submits to whatever he and her other noble masters crave.

The exquisite discipline of the strap. Being bid on and mounted each night. Displayed and used for the enjoyment of all.

Most will take her. One will try to imprison her. Only he will be her true master in that life and this.

Inside scoop: Faith’s paranormal journey takes her to a time of debauchery, including many voyeuristic, some male/male encounters. Faith’s past life encounters also contain some reluctant consent situations.

Interview with C. Zampa

By Cynthia Sax on June 22, 2014

I sat down (virtually) with C. Zampa for a short interview. C. Zampa is celebrating the anniversary of Honor C, a M/M Contemporary.

Cynthia Sax: What makes Honor and Jorge sexy?

C. Zampa: They are Hispanic and I have such a deep passion for all things Latino. The culture, the romanticism associated with the heritage. The language, the accents, a romance all their own.

Cynthia Sax: How does Honor C start?

C. Zampa: The story begins in a tree house. The tree house is central to the story because it’s the place the Honor and Jorge hung out as children, where Honor discovered he was attracted for men, and it became Honor and Jorge’s hide-a-way when they became lovers.

Cynthia Sax: Where is Honor C and why is this setting exciting?

C. Zampa: San Antonio. Because San Antonio is an old, old city with a deep Spanish heritage and romantic, colorful culture. It’s a mix of ancient romance and modern, electric life. A place for romance, for artists. Full of beautiful spots for romantic scenarios between characters. And, as I’m familiar with the city, and I’m Texan, it’s also convenient to use as a romantic backdrop for my fellas.

Cynthia Sax: What makes Honor and Jorge right for each other?

C. Zampa:
Because they are complete opposites. Honor is a big man, sunshiny personality/smile, virile, he’s gentle, caring, eager to please. Yet, because of his childhood experiences, his self-confidence is low. Jorge, on the other hand, is prissy, bitchy, icy/fiery, in-your-face, beautiful, confident. Raised privileged and loved. His health, though, has always been poor, compromised by a heart condition.

Cynthia Sax: What creates problems between Honor and Jorge?

C. Zampa:
The fact that Honor denies he’s gay, and when Jorge comes back into his life, he feels the passion that never left. But, not only that, Honor is married. On one hand, he’s realizing day by day that he is gay and is tormented by that because of his loyalty to his wife and son.

Thank you, C. Zampa, for joining us today!

C. Zampa’s Website: http://www.authorczampa.blogspot.ca/

*****************************************************************************

When Honor Castillo convinces himself he isn’t gay, he begins a new life. He ends his affair with his lover, Jorge Villagomez, and marries Rebecca to establish a life with her as a respected San Antonio businessman. They have a son and he tells himself he is happy.

Eleven years later, Jorge returns to San Antonio, and his path crosses with Honor’s once more. The flame of their passion never died, and neither did Jorge’s love for Honor.

When Jorge approaches Honor to design his studio, Honor believes he can walk the line between friendship and lovers. But when a sudden crisis threatens to take Jorge from him forever, Honor must choose between his duty and his heart. Most of all, he’s forced to decide what he’s willing to lose in order to be true to who he really is.

Interview With Adera Orfanelli

By Cynthia Sax on June 12, 2014

I sat down (virtually) with Adera Orfanelli for a short interview. Adera Orfanelli’s latest release is Gunn’s Kiss, a sexy SciFi.

Cynthia Sax: What excites you about Gunn’s Kiss?

Adera Orfanelli: I love the combination of science fiction and life on a space station along with vampires. Though this installment in the series doesn’t have vampires as a main character, they are there along with their politics. I find it fascinating to play with some of my favorite things in fiction, and as a political junkie, it’s fun to create a world not too different from our own where those in power move behind the scenes.

Cynthia Sax: How does Gunn’s Kiss start?

Adera Orfanelli: Gunn has appeared in the earlier installments (though each book stands alone) and I wanted him to finally meet a character who gets under his skin. The story begins with their meeting because of the heroine’s species. She’s so different from his other clients that it immediately sets him on edge. He’s “creeped out” by her, and yet attracted all at the same time.

Cynthia Sax: Is Gunn’s Kiss a series and will you be writing more stories in this series?

Adera Orfanelli: Yes, the Politics Bite series will continue. This is book three, though each book can and does stand on its own. However characters make reappearances in the other books, so it is fun to see and catch up with characters from the earlier stories. There are two more planned books. Blood Music, the book following this one, will close out a few loose ends that are left in this book and then there is a final volume. I am thinking that there may be additional related series.

Cynthia Sax: What one piece of advice would you give new writers?

Adera Orfanelli:
Write the stories that excite you. Have fun with it. Even if you have a story that is offbeat or something you think a publisher wouldn’t pick up, there are always publishers out there like Changeling who invite their authors to use imagination.

Thank you, Adera Orfanelli, for joining us today!

Interview With Shelly Bell

By Cynthia Sax on May 29, 2014

I sat down (virtually) with Shelly Bell for a short interview. Shelly Bell writes steamy erotic thrillers and her latest release is White Collared, a sexy contemporary serial.

Cynthia Sax: What excites you about White Collared?

Shelly Bell: Everything from the mystery to the romance to the characters excites me about my four-part serial, White Collared. Usually after I finish writing a book, I’m ready to move on, but not in this case. Kate Martin, the heroine, has gone through quite a bit of trauma in her young life, yet she hasn’t allowed it to stop her from achieving her dreams. She’s a fighter. Of course, she’s not perfect. Emotionally she hasn’t allowed anyone to get too close and she overmedicates herself with prescription drugs. But she’s brilliant, compassionate, and tough. That’s why I had to create a worthy hero and a challenging antagonist for her.

White Collared is not only a murder mystery, but it’s also a love triangle. The first three installments end on a cliffhanger both in terms of the romance and the suspense. I think it will keep the reader engaged from week to week wondering what will happen for the characters. That’s why I created a forum on my Facebook Author Page where readers can discuss the books and answer questions such as: Are you on #TeamJaxon or #TeamNick? Who do you think killed Alyssa Deveroux? What really happened to Kate’s father? I’ll be stopping by the forum to give special teasers of the next installment, so you won’t want to miss it!

Cynthia Sax: Where did you get the idea for White Collared?

Shelly Bell: A few years ago, I had wanted to write about a law student, but since the age group fell between young adult and adult, I was told no publisher would acquire it. Of course, a year later, new adult exploded on the scene.

Then a local murder made national headlines. The husband allegedly hired a hit man to kill his wife because he was secretly a Sadist and Dominant. He allegedly wanted to leave her for his slave, but feared he’d lose his money if he asked for a divorce. Because of the success of Fifty Shades, the news reports focused on the BDSM angle and inferred that he killed her because he was a Dom and Sadist. Just because you’re a sadist doesn’t mean you’re a murderer. They knew nothing about the practice of BDSM and it infuriated me, so I decided to write a story about a murdered submissive, but from the perspective of a legal intern.

Cynthia Sax: What creates problems between Kate, Nicholas and Jaxon?

Shelly Bell: I didn’t make the romance easy on Kate. First of all, when the book opens, she has a boyfriend. But soon, two other men complicate her love life—Nicholas Trenton and Jaxon Deveroux. Aside from the love triangle, each of the men are forbidden. Nick is her boss and Jaxon is her client. Not to mention the men are best friends and one of them is suspected of murdering his wife! Kate has spent years working toward her goals and now that she’s close to reaching them, an affair with either her boss or her client could ruin her.

But the biggest conflict in White Collared is that everybody has a secret. The question is what happens when the secret is uncovered? Unfortunately for Kate, it always means danger.

Cynthia Sax: When did you first experience the orgasmic bliss known commercially as Nutella? (grins)

Shelly Bell:
I had the luxury of having my first encounter with Nutella in May of 1990. While my friends went on cruises for spring break, I went to France and Italy with my English teacher, his wife who taught French at another high school, and her students. Best. Decision. Ever. One night after visiting an art museum, we made our way into the courtyard where we were treated to a fireworks display and dessert. That’s when I ate a crepe stuffed with Nutella. I thought I’d died and gone to French heaven. I never forgot my special treat, but it wasn’t until my honeymoon when I returned to Italy with my husband that I got to indulge in it again. And indulge I did! Every morning I had coffee and a roll smothered with Nutella. Sadly, I gave up sugar five years ago, so I relinquish all future Nutella experiences to you.
