Interview With Tina Donahue

By Cynthia Sax on September 17, 2015

I sat down (virtually) with my good friend Tina Donahue for a short interview. Tina Donahue’s latest release is Surrendering to the Beast, an erotic paranormal and romantic comedy.

Cynthia Sax: What makes Daemon so freakin’ sexy?

Tina Donahue: Daemon may be a bad boy satyr, but he’s all heart, especially when it comes to Heather. He loves that sweet fairy like nobody’s business. No matter how much he’s hurting carnally, her needs come first. What a guy. While she’s taming him, he releases her inner bad girl. They’re the perfect paranormal couple, especially when Mistress Jin, or MJ, enters the picture and heats things up even more.

Cynthia Sax: Why are you super excited about Surrendering to the Beast?

Tina Donahue: Surrendering to the Beast is book two of my Taming the Beast series. I absolutely love writing these characters. I have a very irreverent sense of humor and have always liked romcom with a dash of the erotic. The series takes place at From Crud to Stud, a makeover service for supernatural beings. The characters include a good fairy, a reformed demon, a voodoo priestess, a god, Satan (of course), vamps, weres, and a half witch/half mortal who owns the joint. I’ve had so much fun creating these stories – they’re sexy and playful, but oh-so romantic.

Cynthia Sax: What is your favorite line from Surrendering to the Beast?

Tina Donahue: A little background before I provide the line. Daemon, a satyr, comes to the makeover service to get rid of his horns, tail, and hooves. He wants to look totally human and boogie with mortal babes, until he meets Heather. After the makeover – OMG, what a bad boy. Since he lived in a forest all his life, clothes don’t mean much to him. Heather, a good fairy, takes him to her apartment since he doesn’t have anywhere else to stay. She calls for a pizza delivery and warns a very nude Daemon to cover his family jewels when the guy shows up.

Clueless, Daemon asks, ““Is his a lot smaller than mine? Will I make him feel bad
if he sees mine?”

Cynthia Sax: Where did you get the idea for Surrendering to the Beast?

Tina Donahue:
It just happened. I had finished one series and wanted to try another. For some reason, I started thinking about a makeover service for supernatural beings. In many stories, vamps, weres, witches, whatever, have awesome powers and no problems because of them. I started thinking – what if the powers were giving them problems living in the world with mortals? What if they wanted to intermingle more easily with mortals? For example: what if a vamp wanted to date a mortal babe without sucking her dry? Thus From Crud to Stud was born. Weres get moonlight therapy so they don’t shift during a full moon. Vamps get therapy that curbs their bloodsucking ways. The more I thought about it, the more I saw it as a romantic comedy.

When she’s good, she’s very good. But when he’s bad, she’s better.

Taming the Beast, Book 2

As a good fairy, Heather is empathetic and chaste to a fault. No bad language, no dirty thoughts, flirting and no sex. But when a satyr named Daemon steps up to her reception desk at From Crud to Stud, she finds herself on the fast track to exquisite corruption.

Daemon is the total bad-boy package with a kiss straight from the dark side. Though he’s here for a supernatural makeover, Heather can’t imagine why any red-blooded woman would want him to change.

A disciple of the god of wine, Daemon has had his share of good times. But sex has never been this good. Heather brings out a new side of him, a side that makes him want to protect as well as pillage.

But Daemon needs a little creative backup to help set his fairy’s naughtiness free. And that means bringing in Mistress Jin. Under the genie’s tutelage and Daemon’s shameless lust, Heather is about to learn what it means to let loose.

Warning: Not your typical bedtime story. May lead to indecent behavior, a taste for voyeurism, discipline, bondage, m/f, m/f/f and f/f action, which will result in screaming orgasms. Proceed with caution.

Interview With Zoë Mullins

By Cynthia Sax on September 1, 2015

I sat down (virtually) with Zoë Mullins for a short interview. Zoë Mullins’s latest release is Winning Cait, a Contemporary Erotica.

Cynthia Sax: What makes Jackson so very sexy?

Zoë Mullins: Jackson is an alpha male. Protective. Confident. In control. These characteristics help define him as a Dom, but it is these characteristics that once scared Cait away. He is used to people doing what he tells them to because they respect and trust him, but a dozen years ago Cait was too young to appreciate that and felt smothered.

I think what makes Jackson particularly sexy is not because he knows what she needs in the bedroom, but what she needs outside of it. He is willing to take the time to earn her trust as well as her submission.

Cynthia Sax: Where is Winning Cait set?

Zoë Mullins: Not surprisingly a lot of my favorite books have BDSM elements, but they always seem to take place in larger cities with seeming unlimited access to clubs and dungeons. People in small town are kinky too, didn’t you know.

Winning Cait takes place in a small town and features two people getting a second chance at love – a chance to get things right. People in a small town can have long memories and aren’t afraid to take sides. In fact the very lack of privacy in a small town make for its own set of complications.

Cynthia Sax: Is Winning Cait a series and will you be writing more stories in this series?

Zoë Mullins: I knew from the beginning that I wouldn’t be able to leave this group of characters without telling all of their stories, so there will be at least two more stories.

The next one, which I’ve already begun working on, will feature Cait’s best friend, Sophie. When Sophie was diagnosed with cancer, she needed to summon all her courage to fight it. To do so she buried her submissive nature and ended her relationship with her Dom, taking on for herself the role of Domme. Her sexuality was one thing she could control when her body was otherwise rebelling against her. But her sub knows she isn’t happy, and Sophie’s Dom wants her back. Can they work together to give Sophie what she needs?

After that I’d like to do a story about Patrick and Samantha.

Cynthia Sax: What advice would you give new writers?

Zoë Mullins:
The best piece of advice I ever received was to ‘Read. Read. Read. Write. Write. Write.’ Learn the craft from those you love to read. And never give up. If you feel you were born to be a writer, as long as you are putting words to paper, you are a writer. Don’t let anyone take that away from you.

Thank you, Zoë Mullins, for joining us today!

Zoë Mullins’s Website: http://www.zoemullins.ca

*****************************************************************************

After more than a decade, Cait returns home to St. Augustin and the Dom she left behind. A pampered sub, now widowed, Cait has had to adjust to making decisions for herself for the first time in years. With some help from her friends, she’s been able to begin the business she always wanted.

Then Jackson walks into her studio and it’s as if their years apart never happened. As if she hadn’t left him for his best friend. Their intense chemistry is still there, but she’s already balancing running a new business and making ends meet. Does she have room in her life for Jackson, or better yet, is she willing to relinquish her newfound control?

He’s not going to give her a choice. This time he’s determined to earn her submission, and have her back, not only as his sub, but as his wife.

Reader Advisory: This story has graphic sexual language and scenes—no closed bedroom doors (or other rooms) here!

Interview With Zenobia Renquist

By Cynthia Sax on August 31, 2015

I sat down (virtually) with Zenobia Renquist for a short interview. Zenobia Renquist’s latest release is VIP Room Service (Other Related Duties #1), a Contemporary Erotica with BDSM AND a MFM Menage. It is currently on sale for 99 cents!

Cynthia Sax: How does VIP Room Service start?

Zenobia Renquist: VIP Room Service (Other Related Duties #1)—on sale for 99¢ (regularly $2.99) until 26 Sep—starts with Lexie headed to the time clock after a long day on her feet, cleaning rooms and other such things hotel housekeepers do. She’s tired and wants to be home so she can get off her feet. I started the story there because that’s a place most people have been and can relate to easily. Clockwatchers of the world united in a common goal of hurrying up the second hand so they can leave already. But, of course, this is the beginning of a story so Lexie doesn’t get to go home.

Cynthia Sax: Where is VIP Room Service set?

Zenobia Renquist: The story is set is a very posh five-star hotel with all the glitz and glamor that entails. The locale is sexy because this is an upscale establishment where the cheapest room is way more expensive than the normal traveler can afford so you wouldn’t expect anything bordering on illegal going on in the VIP rooms…or would you? I’ve always held the belief that only rich people can afford to break (or bend) the law and Mr. Malena is no exception.

Cynthia Sax: Is VIP Room Service part of a series?

Zenobia Renquist: Most definitely a series, though the stories are all stand alone. The common theme uniting each title is the reason for the series name—other related duties. Anyone who has signed a work contract has seen that phrase at the bottom in small print. It’s meant to encompass anything the employer forgot to list under work duties so the employee can’t later say, when asked to perform a task, “that’s not my job.” Well in this series, that catch-all phrase means way more than running out to get donuts or staying late to plan an office picnic. There is only one title in the series at the moment, but the next heroine—a live-in personal assistant—should be due out in the next few months.

Cynthia Sax: What one piece of advice would you give new writers?

Zenobia Renquist:
Don’t be afraid to write what you love. If you love it, there is a reader out there who will love it as well. It’s just a matter of finding that reader and hoping said reader has a lot of like-minded friends. When you write what you love, writing isn’t work. There’s plenty of aspects of this profession that are work—hard work at that. Writing shouldn’t be counted on that list. Editing however is, but that’s a totally different animal.

Thank you, Zenobia Renquist, for joining us today!

Zenobia Renquist’s Website: http://zenobiarenquist.com/

*****************************************************************************

She offers satisfaction above and beyond what is requested.

Lexie’s job as a maid at a five-star hotel doesn’t normally include the unique and risqué form of room service that rich guest Mr. Malena has requested, nor the generous tip he’s offered. Submission and exhibition and a ménage. Lexie can’t resist. What should have been a one-time thing turns into an introduction into the sensual world of customer satisfaction. This is one workplace encounter that could get her fired…or will it?

Interview With Jane Leopold Quinn

By Cynthia Sax on August 27, 2015

I sat down (virtually) with Jane Leopold Quinn for a short interview. Jane Leopold Quinn’s latest release is Welcome to Dust-Part 1-Eve and Brandon, part of Smokin’ Hot Mini Tales of the Olde West, an Erotic historical western romance serial!

Cynthia Sax: What makes Brandon so very sexy?

Jane Leopold Quinn: You mean I have to explain what makes a cowboy sexy? 😉 Brandon Prosper looks like the quintessential cowboy in a Stetson and has a secret to boot. He’s an undercover federal marshal looking for train robbers. He takes his mission seriously but is distracted by the beauteous Eve Storm. He flirts wildly with her, giving her the idea that’s all he is — a flirt. And the fact that Eve easily handles the riff raff coming in for drinks doesn’t threaten his masculinity. He gets a kick out of watching her put the bozos in their place.

Cynthia Sax: Where did you get the idea for Welcome to Dust?

Jane Leopold Quinn: I’ve been trying to remember exactly where the story of Dust and its denizens came from. I wanted to try to write a serial. Okay, that’s a start. I just began making notes. The town name, Dust, describes exactly what it looks like — desolate and dusty. Then came the character names. Names just come to me. When I first began writing, I poured through naming books for just the right thing. But as the years went on, character names would just appear in my mind. I have to laugh at myself coming up with a name like Sam Dash (the hero of Part 2).

Cynthia Sax: How does Welcome To Dust start?

Jane Leopold Quinn: I’ve watched enough western movies and TV shows to have no problem imagining an upscale, fancy saloon bar. The first scene begins with the Emerald Saloon. I could see it in my mind. It appeared to me like in a play with Eve wiping off the bar and lusting over Bran. Then Bran flirts and the story is on!

Cynthia Sax: What causes problems between Eve and Brandon?

Jane Leopold Quinn:
Neither Eve nor Bran know anything about each other’s pasts. Eve is only working in Dust in the saloon until she earns enough money to go back East. She wants to become a school teacher like the ones who taught her. She’s attracted to Bran but holds him off because she certainly doesn’t want to become serious with a man out here in the West. Bran is a federal marshal undercover in Dust to catch train robbers. Eve, gorgeous and gutsy enough to handle the cowboys who come into the saloon, is distracting him from his job and driving him nuts. He wants her and considers her standoffishness a challenge and he wants to win her.

Cynthia Sax: Does someone in Welcome To Dust have a secret? I love secrets!

Jane Leopold Quinn:
Eve is determined to keep her secret especially from Bran. She left her father’s home in the East because of her uncle’s actions. Age and distance makes her feel able to handle the man when she goes back. I’ve mentioned that Bran is an undercover officer.

Cynthia Sax: Is Welcome To Dust a series and will you be writing more stories in this series?

Jane Leopold Quinn:
At this point, the Smokin’ Hot stories are a serial in two parts. Welcome to Dust is Part 1 and ends on a cliffhanger. Part 2, The Emerald Saloon, features the saloon owner Francine and the town sheriff Sam. I have more stories in mind, for example Johnny, the saloon’s piano player.

Cynthia Sax: What advice would you give new writers?

Jane Leopold Quinn:
Never give up, but if for some reason your muse leaves town for a while, don’t despair. The stories are still in you. They’ll come back.

Cynthia Sax: What do you love about writing in your historical western romance?

Jane Leopold Quinn:
The happily ever after is what attracts me to romance. Recently I tried to read a couple of “literary” historical novels and they might have ended happily but things happened, tragedies early in the stories, that turned me off. Real life has some really sucky things going on, and I think romance is the best antidote. I love to write the hope and promise of a happy ending. And read it.

Thank you, Jane Leopold Quinn, for joining us today!

Welcome to Dust is the first of an erotic two-part serial and ends with a cliffhanger.

Dust, a town on the edge of nowhere, has a lot going on.

Eve Storm tends bar at the Emerald Saloon and yearns to increase her savings to go home back East. The fly in her ointment is the gorgeous cowboy who comes in all the time.

Brandon Prosper, federal marshal undercover as a simple cowboy, cannot stay away from Eve. She doesn’t have a problem keeping away from him though and thwarts his attempts at seduction at every turn.

Dust, the Emerald Saloon, and its denizens are the centerpieces in this erotic historical western two-part serial about a down and out town, train robbers, female saloon owners and bartenders, and hunky lawmen. Welcome to Dust is just the beginning…

Interview With Angelina J. Windsor

By Cynthia Sax on August 26, 2015

I sat down (virtually) with Angelina J. Windsor for a short interview. Angelina J. Windsor’s latest release is Seventh Son, a Paranormal with werewolves!

Cynthia Sax: What makes Lord Bram Snowdon so freakin’ sexy?

Angelina J. Windsor: Oh Boy! He’s a huge, alpha male who can turn into a werewolf at will! Sexy, hot and passionate is our Lord Snowdon. The first of the Dragonstone Clan, he’s the ultimate tortured soul. Cursed by his wife, he roams the woods feeling too much a monster to deserve to be the liege of his clan. Until that is, one day, he runs into his equal, a mate (Isobelle, my favorite heroine!) who makes it her life’s mission to lead him back to his true calling. Lord Snowdon is cultured and wild, a deadly combination, eh! I can’t but think of him and I get wound up and feeling fine…

Cynthia Sax: What do you find especially exciting about Seventh Son?

Angelina J. Windsor: Oh my, all of it does, you have to have a passion for your stories to stay with them for weeks, if not months, on end. But I would imagine the fact that it is set during the time of the Arthurian Legends, a thousand plus years ago, in the fabled Isle of Albion, drew me the most. Such a time and setting allows for so much passion and excitement. Not to mention the evocative language possible. The story of Bram and Isobelle, two memorable characters I loved working with, is a dark gothic tale with time spent on the windswept moors, like so many of the books I enjoyed growing up. Side note: I loved to read then and I love to read just as much now! Think of Heathcliff and Cathy. Except living in this time and place looking back has many advantages like being able to write about it more explicitly which adds a whole other layer of tension and intensity. If you know what I mean, nudge-nudge wink-wink!!!

Cynthia Sax: What is your favorite line from Seventh Son?

Angelina J. Windsor: That’s an easy one! It’s a scene from my heroine, Isobelle’s journey. I had to let myself fall into what this experience would feel like, the coming back from true unconsciousness. And of course my editor adding a happy face to this line made my day and told me it was all I had hoped it would be. Thanks Rebecca! Here’s the line:
“I came to consciousness slowly, the land of dreams and the land of the living twisted together giving me no purchase to find the opening to my own life, much like a swimmer stuck under the frozen ice with no borehole.”
*This is the kind of ancient language structure I enjoyed creating.

Cynthia Sax: How does Seventh Son start?

Angelina J. Windsor:
Ah, my heroine, Isobelle, is at her wits end having been cast out of hearth and home. She’s desperate to leave the world that has turned its back on her and looks to end it all on a high bridge. As she is about to jump into the cold, rushing waters below where death awaits she is accosted by Bram looking to save her. Her rescue fires her passions for this man who has risked much and she falls into his arms without delay. They rut right there on the bridge, for she has discovered she is gloriously happy to be alive and in the arms of this warm, enticing stranger. She feels little shame for accepting his embraces. But will that be enough for her to become a part of his life as she so desperately wants? Or will the beast inside him drive her away?

Cynthia Sax: What creates problems between Isobelle and Bram?

Angelina J. Windsor:
Again, oh boy! The fact that our heroine is attracted to the female in the story and allows her to be overly familiar if you get what I mean causes all sort of grief! It was my first f/f scene and my editor agreed it was scorching hot. I think I’d better have a cold shower.

Okay, I’m back. Yes, conflict drives stories. And Isobelle’s betrayal has dire consequences. She has much to atone for in proving her love for Bram and she suffers greatly.

Thank you, Angelina J. Windsor, for joining us today!

Angelina J. Windsor’s Website: http://www.angelinajwindsor.com/

*****************************************************************************

An ancient curse. A darkly handsome lord. A desperate woman.

Hungry and homeless, Isobelle refuses to sell her only possession, her body. When she is finally driven to end her suffering, Lord Bram Snowdon rescues her.

Bram lives under a curse, one that’s driven him to become a creature in hiding, knowing every full moon will turn him into a monster.

Bram and Isobelle both have demons to fight, and their struggles soon turn to lust…and love. But destiny awaits them: they are fated to help the Dragonstone clan reclaim its birthright. This mission puts Isobelle’s life in peril and worse, puts Bram’s trust in her at risk.

Morganas, daughter of the Merlin, mage of Dragonstone and Avalon, offers to be a source of the purest help to Isobelle but also becomes her darkest temptation.

Inside Scoop: This story contains a scorching-hot f/f scene.

Interview With Laurell Emily Grey

By Cynthia Sax on July 24, 2015

I sat down (virtually) with Laurell Emily Grey for a short interview. Today is the release day for Laurell Emily Grey’s The Nymph’s Oath, an erotic fairy tale and her debut as a published writer. Woot! Congrats, Laurell!

Cynthia Sax: Where did you get the idea for The Nymph’s Oath?

Laurell Emily Grey: This is the first story I have ever written and so I found my ideas from the story in various places. As a reader, I adore menages where the female is the center of attention, there’s just something about the spark of having two (or more) men share you. This is where I found my first idea for the story. Another idea involves my love for the Greeks. As a child, I was always hyped up to read and learn about the Greek gods and goddesses of old. They always fascinated me.

As a married woman with a very territorial hubby, boundaries are set (he does not share well with others. And I of course, am the same vise versa.)

But, what if it wasn’t that way? What if my hubby shared me with another man? And we were all destined to be together…What if we could live in a world surrounded by the paranormal..

What if my idea for my readers were not just to write a hot erotic read but…my intentions were to open the minds of the readers?

And boom, with those little ideas, I created an alternative universe where it was possible to live out my fantasies (as well as other readers) within my writing.

Cynthia Sax: How does The Nymph’s Oath begin?

Laurell Emily Grey: Oh the first scene, the Prologue!! This scene is actually crucial for the readers out there. The story starts back hundreds of years ago, and it all starts with a nymph.

I started the story here because the events that take place in this scene, will actually change the world for all nymph kind forever. This is where the Oath is created.

Cynthia Sax: Where is The Nymph’s Oath set?

Laurell Emily Grey: The story is set on the paranormal island of Mana. This is where most of the paranormal creatures reside (not all.) And one reason why this location is so sexy is because when the Nymph’s Oath begins, there is a huge celebration. Long story short, Zeus really likes to watch nymphs get their freak on in public, huge love fest. (Zeus is such a pervert.)

Cynthia Sax: Is The Nymph’s Oath part of a series and will you be writing more stories in this series?

Laurell Emily Grey:
Yes!! This is this first book of The Nymph’s Oath series. I plan on having 4 books total in the series, unless my fans beg me for more haha. And if the fans want more, I will give it to them.

Thank you, Laurell Emily Grey, for joining us today!

The Nymph’s Oath, curse or blessing?

A yearly ritual where all nymph kind will go into heat, sending their sexual hormones into overdrive, but there’s a catch. If the females are not mated by the time they reach the age of thirty, they die tragically.

Two men on a mission. Trent and Kraven are so close to finding their mate they can almost taste her. But will they be able to claim the woman that they were destined to be mated with?

Or will it all be in vain…

A lost cause.

Interview With Izzy Szyn

By Cynthia Sax on May 4, 2015

I sat down (virtually) with Izzy Szyn for a short interview. Izzy Szyn’s most recent release is The Anniversary Present: The Gift of Love, a Contemporary menage.

Cynthia Sax: What do you love about writing erotic romance?

Izzy Szyn: I have always been a fan of Erotic Romance, especially ménages. Most people that know me are not surprised when they find out what I have written so far. I think that as long as love involves consenting adults it shouldn’t matter who your life partner or partners are.

Cynthia Sax: What one piece of advice would you give new writers?

Izzy Szyn: Never say never. As long as I have been stalking romance writers the one question I was always asked is when was I going to write? I had been in denial for a long time. For as long as I can remember I had stuff running in my head. But I sort of pushed them into the backburner. Mostly because I didn’t think anyone would take me seriously.

I have moderated chats for a long time. One night after a chat, my friend Iris Pross dared me to write. She said she bet that I could write better than some of the ideas being thrown around in the chatroom and that is how Izzy was born.

Cynthia Sax: Where did you get the idea for The Anniversary Present?

Izzy Szyn: I always get my ideas at about 2 sometimes 3am in the morning. Makes it really inconvenient when I am trying to sleep and have to be at work in the morning.

But literally the characters woke me up with their story. At my job I have Fridays and Saturdays off, plus half of Thursday. I took that whole Thursday off and wrote their story. I literally wrote it in two days. Granted it was a short, but it was the most I had written in a two day period so far.

Cynthia Sax: Is The Anniversary Present part of a series and will you be writing more stories in this series?

Izzy Szyn:
It wasn’t supposed to be a series. It was supposed to be a one-time thing. But there is a certain character that people have taken a strong dislike to and want that person to get their comeuppance. I have received PM messages on Facebook telling me that the person needed to be smacked. So maybe one or two more?

Thank you, Izzy Szyn, for joining us today!

Interview With Ashley Ladd

By Cynthia Sax on March 30, 2015

I sat down (virtually) with Ashley Ladd for a short interview. Today is the release day for Ashley Ladd’s Pretend Lover, a MF Paranormal Erotic.

Cynthia Sax: What makes Gage sexy?

Ashley Ladd: Gage is an ex-Army sergeant/now bartender and college student who is very well built and very tough on the outside but warm and friendly on the inside. He’s deeply in love with Rachel, but biding his time until she’s ready to let romance back into her life. Until that time, he’s willing to be her best friend and study partner.

Cynthia Sax: Where did you get the idea for Pretend Lover?

Ashley Ladd: My publisher Totally Bound put out a call for hotel stories for their new line. As I was brainstorming I saw a news story about a parent complaining about a furry convention that was staying in the same hotel as his daughter’s cheerleading convention. The parent thought it inappropriate that the hotel book the two conventions at the same time, exposing the children to the horrible furries. Although that isn’t the crux of the story it added an interesting dimension.

I also looked in on a couple hotel workers’ Facebook boards to get ideas of what happens in hotels.

Cynthia Sax: How does Pretend Lover start?

Ashley Ladd: A Baptist convention leader complains to Rachel about the lawless, unchristian furries running amok around the hotel ruining her convention. In the midst of this, Rachel’s ex-husband and his new wife (the woman who broke up Rachel’s marriage) show up for the furry convention on their honeymoon – and also because Rachel’s ex is a furry con artist and enthusiast. The new wife accuses Rachel that she’s unable to get a man of her own and warns her to stay away from her husband. To save her sanity and her reputation, Rachel asks her new best friend Gage to pretend to be her boyfriend/lover. Gage agrees, jumping at the chance to be close to Rachel as he wants to be her real boyfriend.

Cynthia Sax: Where is Pretend Lover set?

Ashley Ladd:
Pretend Lover is set in San Francisco, California. I honeymooned in San Francisco and I think it’s just about the most romantic city on earth—second only to Saginaw Island, Michigan perhaps. It’s a gorgeous city with a lot of character and depth.

Thank you, Ashley Ladd, for joining us today!

Ashley Ladd’s Website: http://www.ashleyladd.blogspot.com

*****************************************************************************

Rachel Ehler’s having a horrible day. Concierge at the San Francisco Totally Five Star Hotel she is trying to keep the holier than thou Baptist conventioneers from going to war with the very horny Furry Con furries. Then her ex-husband Nate shows up for the Furry Con on his honeymoon with his new bridezilla, Caryne, the woman who broke up their marriage. Interview With Allie Ritch

By Cynthia Sax on January 16, 2015

I sat down (virtually) with Allie Ritch for a short interview. Allie Ritch’s latest release is Vampire Territory 1: Drinking Partners, a Paranormal featuring sexy vampires.

Cynthia Sax: What makes Lucas so deliciously lickable?

Allie Ritch: Lucas Thane is a master vampire who wears power like a second skin. He’s ruthless and cunning, but not without honor, and he has picked up some serious skills in the bedroom over the decades. Lucas is also devilishly handsome with raven hair and midnight-blue eyes. The woman in Alex appreciates when he’s tender or protective, while the vampire in her is attracted to his strength and cunning.

Cynthia Sax: What excites you about Drinking Partners?

Allie Ritch: I had so much fun writing this book. For starters, I’ve been a fan of vampire romance for as long as I can remember, so I was super excited to write a novel in this genre. I made sure each of the characters is his/her own individual, there’s a ton of action (sword fights, gun play, explosions), and the love scenes are scorching hot. I feel like the urban setting gives this book an edge, while creating an alternative history gave me room to play. There was no part of this book I didn’t enjoy writing, and I hope readers love it as much as I do.

Cynthia Sax: What is your favorite line from Drinking Partners?

Allie Ritch: “I love you enough to kill for you, to lay waste to armies, and yes, to die for you. Well, after I take out your enemies, of course.” This line is just so Lucas. He’s fierce, loving, and lethal, and he has a dark sense of humor.

Cynthia Sax: Where is Drinking Partners set?

Allie Ritch:
This story is set in the eastern United States, but with an alternate history. Vampires have been in the New World for centuries, and many have been terrorizing the humans all that time. Travel is strictly controlled so that the humans can’t all flee the area, and there are only a few vampire-free states in the country. Within this setting, areas like the Atlanta Underground and other recognizable locations take on a whole new significance. Because Lucas and Alex are each in charge of large territories, I was able to take them to multiple cities, including Raleigh, Asheville, Charlotte, and Columbia, to name only a few. I think having a range instead of a single, static location makes the book more exciting.

Being the master vampire for the Mid-Atlantic Territory is a tough job. Between the Human Rebellion trying to kill him with poisonous suicide donors and snobby born vampires bucking his authority, Lucas Thane has his hands full. What he needs is a regular drinking partner to feed from and a bigger power block. He finds both in the form of Alexandra Gage, the master of the territory south of his.

Alex could use a little help herself, but she has no intention of letting Lucas take over. Turned into a vampire against her will, she has had enough control taken from her. She’ll never let Lucas usurp her right to rule, but will she let him steal her heart? Passion ignites between them, and it’s amazing what vampire bodies can do

Interview With Dani Wade

By Cynthia Sax on December 8, 2014

I sat down (virtually) with Dani Wade for a short interview. Dani Wade’s latest release is Beneath the Surface, Small Town Secrets Book 1, a Sexy Romantic Suspense.

Cynthia Sax: What is one thing you absolutely love about Beneath the Surface?

Dani Wade: Beneath the Surface originated from my own life experience, and is one of the things that excites me most about this story!
At the core of the suspense in Beneath the Surface is Emma’s search for her twin sister, to whom she is psychically linked. The twins have always been able to feel each other’s emotions, but only in extreme circumstances. Now imprisoned by a man she thought she could trust with her body, Amy is reaching out to Emma in the only way she knows how…through her dreams.
Growing up as an identical twin gave me a lot of insight into Amy and Emma’s relationship. Everyone thinks that being a twin is completely cool…it is, but the dynamics of a twin relationship are much more complicated than that. It’s having that person who has been with you from before birth, knows more about you than you probably want them to know, can hit every irritation button you possess, and yet is someone you can’t imagine your life without.
Putting that on the page was a wonderful experience for me.

Cynthia Sax: Where is Beneath the Surface set?

Dani Wade: This entire series is set in the fictional town of Cadence, TN. Though I live in the suburbs now, I grew up on a farm in rural Tennessee. This type of small town—where there are enough people to create classes within the society, but few enough people that everybody knows everyone else’s business—has always fascinated me. These towns have secrets that the people don’t want spread, and they run risks to keep them quiet, creating a fine tension that becomes the fuse to a potential bomb. Fun to play with as a writer, and be swept up in as a reader.

Cynthia Sax: What causes problems between Emma and Colin?

Dani Wade: A lot of characters have conflict because they are so different from each other. I found it intriguing that Emma and Colin’s conflict is instead rooted in the same goal: the responsibility they each feel to take care of their families. But in doing so, they put the other person’s family at risk. The search for Emma’s sister might uncover a lot of Colin’s secrets—unwanted secrets he has spent his adulthood protecting his grandmother and sisters from.

Cynthia Sax: Is Beneath the Surface part of a series and will you be writing more stories in this series?

Dani Wade:
This story is part of a loosely connected series all set in the same town of Cadence in rural Tennessee. The Small Town Secrets series already has this book and a novella, Snow Bound. Book 2 is already in the works for release next year, along with a planned Book 3. Each book features a different couple and mystery, but revisiting all the characters in this town is a must. I simply can’t let go of them!
