Allinen is the heroine of Doc’s Orders.
Her full name is Kapinallinen, which roughly means rebellious or rebel.
(That’s a long name so her loved ones call her Allinen.)
Allinen is an outcast in her community.
Khambalians are born with a fated mate. Everything in their society revolves around this bond. There are training sessions, elaborate lifespan-long ceremonies, mate-required leadership roles.
Our heroine, however, isn’t genetically compatible with anyone in her settlement, the only group of Khambalians on her planet.
She doesn’t fit in. She can’t hold a role. She doesn’t serve a purpose. She’s seen as being damaged and very few beings want to associate with her.
All traditional routes to happiness, to belonging are closed to her so she has no choice but to rebel, to find her own unique path.
That path leads her to Doc.
