A writer asked me what I thought of a certain story structure.
I asked him what HE thought of it.
He said it worked well for his story and his editor, someone he respects, really likes it.
I told him if it is working well for him, don’t change it.
And I wanted to tell him to stop asking other writers what they think of it. Because someone won’t like it. And they’ll have reasons. And then he’ll second guess something that is helping him refine his story.
If something is working for you (and it doesn’t hurt anyone else), use it.
