Muse Food – The Weather In Your Scene
One of the easiest ways, I find, to set the tone of a scene is to describe the weather.
Turbulent weather prepares the reader for conflict and…well…turbulence. (grins) A sunny day is usually a happy peaceful loving day. A cloudy day hints at building conflict. A completely overcast dark day sets the scene for pain and sorrow and death.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – May 19
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I spotted this pretty yet wet calico street cat drying herself in the sun.
Drift Would, the second core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series (releasing in July), is ready to go. It is loaded at booksellers.
I continue to craft the first draft of Claiming Cure, the third core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series (releasing in November). This is going VERY slowly because I’ve been having fun gardening.
I moved a lot of the seedlings outside, filling the vegetable garden with tomato, bean, squash, and other plants. Those spaces look much fuller now. And that makes me happy.
Have a wonderful week, my friends. (big hugs) Touch some soil if you can. I’ve read studies that bare skin contact with the ground increases our happiness levels. And I very much want you to find joy! Touching soil does make me calmer. (smiles)

Photo Or It Didn’t Happen
I recently posted about something that happened to me.
A commenter new to me asked for photo ‘evidence.’
I, of course, don’t need to prove my reality to some stranger. (shakes head)
But also…I’m a WRITER. I’m not a photographer. (grins) I create word pictures. Words are my medium.
I rarely have my camera with me. And if I do have a camera with me, I never think to reach for it.
I’m, instead, creating sentences in my brain. I’m experiencing everything, using all my senses, to craft it into words later.
So no, I don’t have photo evidence. The images only exist in my memory and, if I craft the words with sufficient skill, in your mind.

Making Treats Last
I’m currently eating a Cadbury Creme Egg the Dear Wonderful Hubby gave me before Easter.
I have 9 eggs left. I won’t get more until next year. I’m making these delicious treats last.
When I eat one, I often set aside everything else I’ve been doing and focus on the experience. I let the chocolate melt on my tongue. I savor every moment of it.
In this increasing wild world, I think we should all do that more often. When we encounter something wonderful, we should set aside everything else if that is at all possible and we should focus on that good.
Make those treats last.

Throwback Thursday – Dark Thoughts

Adding A Perennial To The Flowerbed
We added a new perennial flower to one of the flowerbeds! Woot!
We already have roses, irises, daffodils and blue snowdrops. Those are all perennials the squirrels leave alone. We had crocus this spring. They were supposed to be squirrel-resistant but some creatures ate all the tops off them so I question that.
This year, we’re adding Cats Pajamas Catmint.
Here is a stock photo of it.
It is supposedly critter resistant and drought resistant and it should be so very pretty.

Muse Food – Cows In Space
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I spotted this cow outside of Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.
Bovines appear on various planets in my Cyborg World.
This is partially a joke. (grins) The thought of cows in space is funny to me.
But there is also a scientific reason for having cows on the planets.
Something has to eat the vegetation.
Everything needs a predator, something that will keep the population in check. That includes plants. Cows have evolved to be very good plant eaters.
Will the cows on alien planets look like cows?
They will likely have similarities (like a digestive system that can tolerate grasses and other plants) but they won’t look exactly like the cows we have here on Earth.
They will definitely be space cows.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – May 12
One of the many things I love about cats is they often choose the most inconvenient-to-others places to take a nap.
This adorable street cat is taking a nap in the middle of a busy sidewalk. Some humorous person put traffic cones around him so he must have been sleeping there for a while. (grins)
Every so often, someone will rub his tummy and he’d swat at them.
Drift Would, the second core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series (releasing in July), has been loaded at booksellers. It should be ready for release day.
I continue to craft the first messy draft of Claiming Cure, the third core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series (releasing in November). Stars. This story is action-packed! My heart races merely thinking about it.

While attending a party, Kesser, the daughter of her planet’s leader, witnesses the abduction of her best friend and her best friend’s mate.
She’s determined to rescue them. Preferably without fracturing the fragile peace agreement her mom has crafted with the abductors’ planet.
The only issue is…she has never participated in a retrieval mission.
Searching for assistance, she approaches the mate’s guard. The male, with his big broad shoulders and deep growly voice, affects her like no other being ever has.
Kesser wants him. She trusts him. And she requires his stealth combat skills.
Desperately.
Strike is no guard. The D Model cyborg has been sent to the sector to discreetly investigate a potential planet-destroying situation.
When a curvy human female with big brown eyes requests his help with a rescue, he doesn’t hesitate to say yes. She’s his genetic match, the one being he was manufactured to protect.
She’s also traveling to the next planet he has to search. He plans to claim his female while he fulfills his responsibilities to his kind.
Neither Strike nor Kesser realizes the dangers facing them are far greater than they imagine. Their enemies are converging, and one failed mission could doom the entire universe.
