Gardening With Raccoons

By Cynthia Sax on August 1, 2023

The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I share our backyard with many critters – birds, butterflies, ants, bunnies, the Mafia Squirrels…and Rocky, the Raccoon plus other Raccoon families.

Gardening in a space shared with raccoons means gardening differently. Our cute Trash Pandas are menaces in the garden.

This year, alone, Rocky sat on our sole experimental potato plant, breaking off all but two of the stems. He knocked down one of the trellises for the green beans and then sat on two of those seedlings, smushing them flat. He dug up tomato plants while he was looking for grubs.

All these actions were preventable. I have now installed a tomato cage around the potato plant. And I placed sticks poking out of the ground around the green beans and tomatoes. Those makeshift fences serve as a deterrent. (I got that idea when doing research on battle defences for the cyborg romances.)

I also don’t install things like raised beds (aka sleeping quarters/homes for raccoon families – grins) or water features (aka handwashing and fighting locations for raccoons). The lids to composters and other key containers are complex to open (the lid has to be turned and lined up properly). And I’m careful about what I use in the garden/yard, knowing Rocky and other critters will likely be putting it in their mouths.

Raccoons are clever and tend to cause chaos (often out of boredom). But there are things we can do to decrease their less-desired activities. And we are fortunate to share our yard with them.

Strive For Forever

This cyborg seeks to vanquish an ancient entity and save his curvy human female.

Euryale made a terrible mistake. She opened a container she shouldn’t have touched and released one of the oldest lifeforms in existence. That all-powerful entity is now utilizing her as its host body and is slowly draining her energy.

Soon, she’ll die.

Euryale has accepted this fate and is determined to use her remaining moments in the universe to save as many lives as she can.

Her plans do NOT include a smoldering-hot, poetry-wielding cyborg willing to decimate entire planets to save her.

While under the control of the Humanoid Alliance, Strive, a K Model cyborg, disobeyed direct orders and refused to kill on their behalf. If he hadn’t escaped their cruel clutches, his defiance would have led to his death.

The male knowingly risked that fate to save the lifespans of complete strangers.

There is nothing he wouldn’t do to protect Euryale. The curvy human female is his genetic match, the one being he is destined to defend.

And she is in danger.

Strive would break every vow, cross every boundary, risk absolutely everything to keep her from harm.

Including battle a deity no one has ever defeated.
