Muse Food – Tlingit Canoe And Decorating Important Objects
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I admired this Tlingit Canoe we spotted in Sitka, Alaska.
We’ve noticed that almost every culture decorates some versions of the objects important to them.
The Tlingit are people tied closely to the water. They decorated some of their canoes.
If people are farmers, they decorate some of the baskets used to gather crops from the fields.
Warrior groups decorate their swords. People in a dry climate decorate their water pots.
I think of this when I’m writing or reading about alien cultures. If an item is beautifully decorated, it usually has some significance to those beings.

Woodstock 99: Peace, Love, and Rage
Spoiler Alert – This post will discuss the documentary Woodstock 99: Peace, Love, and Rage and might contain some information you haven’t yet uncovered about this event. You might wish to skip this post if you haven’t watched this documentary.
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I watched Woodstock 99: Peace, Love, and Rage, a documentary on, yes, you guessed it, the Woodstock 99 music festival. (grins)
One of the things I found interesting was how history had repeated.
The original Woodstock was as much of a sh*t show as Woodstock 99 was.
Literally.
Bathroom facilities weren’t sufficient at the festivals. Feces was everywhere.
And figuratively.
People died at the original Woodstock. There were a LOT of sexual assaults. The county it was held in declared a state of emergency. The Air Force had to transport performers to and from the site. They were dang close to calling in the National Guard.
The founders of Woodstock 99, like many Baby Boomers, had, unfortunately, romanticized the original Woodstock. They remembered only the best parts – the music, the feeling of togetherness, the freedom.
Which would have been fine.
Rewriting history is what humans tend to do. We curate our recollections.
Except it meant the founders didn’t correct the original festival’s mistakes. They were repeated.
Which is, again, what humans tend to do.
That is reality.
In the stories we read, we judge characters who repeat past mistakes harshly.
We expect them to learn and to change. Maybe the characters make different mistakes. But they never make the same mistake twice.

Throwback Thursday – Baring Grudge
Baring Grudge is both an enemies-to-lovers cyborg romance AND a found family cyborg romance.
Taelyn, the human heroine, talks tough. If you listen to her words, it appears as though she doesn’t care about anyone. But she has surrounded herself with found family. She would trade her lifespan for theirs.

Close But Not TOO Close
Strive is likely the most introverted of the cyborg warriors we’ve met thus far.
Some of the cyborgs, like Ghost, benefit from semi-isolation because they are severely damaged. Strive benefits from semi-isolation because that is his character.
He needs the quiet time. Being with others constantly tires him. He thrives artistically in relative silence.
Of course, he loves spending time with Grin and Raw and their females. His friends are important to him.
But he also likes going into the woods by himself. Or entering an isolated creative state.
And that’s okay. The beings who care for him understand his need to do that. They love him as he is!

Trimming The Tomato Plants
The weather has been really wet and cool this summer in my corner of the universe. The tomato plants have been growing quickly. They are already surpassing their 6 foot bamboo cane supports.
Which means our super fierce winds have been snapping their tops off. Often not where I want them to be snapped (under a sprig of maturing tomatoes, for example).
I had to grit my teeth and trim the tomato plants this week. That is painful for both me and the plant. I don’t like doing it but it IS necessary.
This is similar to how I don’t like trimming unnecessary scenes from stories. But that’s necessary also. It results in a better story.
Back to the tomatoes…
Because our growing season now might last…well…forever (due to climate change), I’m letting some of the suckers (new growths) on these tall tomatoes grow. The energy that would have went into growing the tops of the plants will now be redirected to the suckers.
And we’ll hopefully gain more tomatoes. (grins)

Muse Food – Rockies And A Different Point Of View
The Dear Wonderful Hubby took this photo of the Canadian Rockies from a plane.
We often seen photos of the Rocky Mountains taken from the ground. The Rockies tower over the photographer and the viewer. They are huge and magnificent and very much connected to the planet.
With this change of view, they look…otherworldly. They appear as though they are floating in the clouds. The Rockies seem…smaller, when compared to the entire planet and to space.
THIS is the importance of point of view. A change of point of view in a photo or in a story can change our perceptions dramatically.
Point of view is a powerful tool.

65, Dinosaur Planets And Small Casts Of Characters
Spoiler Alert – This post will discuss the movie 65 and might have some (mild) spoilers. You might wish to skip this post if you haven’t yet watched this movie.
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I recently watched 65. Of course, we watched it. (grins) A SciFi movie set on a dinosaur planet? I’m all in!
It was…okay. I think maybe my expectations of this movie were too high and that messed with my enjoyment of it.
But one of the things it did well was limit the number of characters. Other than some flashbacks and the planet itself being a character, it was solely the two of them. They were alone on the planet.
This focused our attention on them. It increased our probability of caring about them. And it is a trick many Romance Writers use. We get the love interests alone so readers can focus on them and their relationship.

Strive For Forever
This cyborg seeks to vanquish an ancient entity and save his curvy human female.
Euryale made a terrible mistake. She opened a container she shouldn’t have touched and released one of the oldest lifeforms in existence. That all-powerful entity is now utilizing her as its host body and is slowly draining her energy.

Strive would break every vow, cross every boundary, risk absolutely everything to keep her from harm.
Including battle a deity no one has ever defeated.
