Throwback Thursday – Seizing Power
There are leaders who are much beloved.
And then there’s Power. (grins) Power is the self-appointed leader of the cyborg council. Very few cyborgs truly like him. He has been forced to make some tough and extremely unpopular decisions. And he believes it is easier to make those decisions if they don’t involve friends.
Eirene Ours is a much more beloved leader. She’s the head of the Rebel Cyborgs and she believes passionately that certain decisions Power made are very, very wrong.
She’s willing to ‘neutralize’ him to protect her beings.
Even if that means losing her one chance at love.
Seizing Power
This cyborg believes he’s in control.
Power is the self-appointed leader of the cyborg council. Other members might debate situations. He makes the ultimate decisions.
When a threat to Homeland is revealed, he takes command of a fleet and ventures to the edge of cyborg-controlled space to investigate. He finds a rebellion led by a mysterious upstart he calls Cadet.
The plan Power derives is simple—he’ll quickly quash the uprising and teach its leader a lesson the warrior will never forget.
NO ONE challenges his authority.
Eirene Ours might be called a cadet by Power but she is NOT his subordinate. She is the arrogant E Model’s genetic match.
For much of her mature lifespan, she has desired the male, yearning for his dark-eyed gaze, craving his sure hands, longing for his respect.
That esteem was never granted. And Eirene Ours can no longer wait to earn it. There’s an external threat to their kind, a danger that might destroy them all.
Having lured Power to her home terrain, she now plans to use everything within her means — her fists, her daggers, her ship-destroying missiles — to pound that truth into her stubborn warrior’s thick metal skull.
The future of every cyborg is at stake. She can’t fail them.

The Garden Is Winding Down
My part of the world has been experiencing significant below seasonal temperatures.
The plants in the garden plus the trees, the insects, the birds and other life, believe it is November or late Autumn/Fall. They are slowing down or, in the case of the watermelon, stopping growth. Leaves are turning yellow or orange or red. They’re ready for a break.
We have enough tomatoes on the vines to supply us for the year. Once they turn red, we’ll cut them up and freeze them.
We only got 2 bell peppers from our gazillion plants this year. But that’s okay. We’ll buy a box from a local farmer, cut those bell peppers up and freeze them also.
The Dear Wonderful Hubby’s dream of his own watermelon patch will have to wait to come true next year. (smiles) That will give us a challenge in 2024.

Intrepid Encounter is due to my Awesome Editor by end of day September 1st (by the end of HER day – she’s West Coast and I am closer to the East Coast – that gives me a few extra hours – grins).

Muse Food – Deer And The Unusual
A couple months ago (before the wildfires got really bad), the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I visited Victoria, BC.
We saw deer near the edge of a park. The deer were beautiful. We took photos and watched them for a long time.
People would pass us. They’d glance at the deer and continue walking.
I couldn’t believe they didn’t want to watch the deer.
We eventually continued on our trek. And we saw more deer.
And more deer. And more deer.
The deer were everywhere.
The locals didn’t stop and watch the deer because deer weren’t unusual for them. At all.
It was unusual for us because we’re visitors. We don’t often see deer.
I keep that in mind when I write scenes. A local might not comment on the purple trees on an alien planet, for example. A newcomer would comment on them.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – August 27
I’ve completed the first draft of Intrepid Encounter, the fifth core story in the Cyborg Unity series (releasing in November)! Woot!
Both Intrepid and his Valkyrie survived their story. (grins) They were dang close to not surviving a few times.
I’m now moving immediately into the second draft stage. The first draft might be the messiest first draft I have ever created. (shakes head) I have quite a bit of work to do.
After that, I’ll have the third draft to complete. Then it will be sent to my Awesome Editor for likely three more rounds of revisions/edits.
It is a long process but it ensures you receive the best story possible. You deserve that!

Alien Planets And Changing Seasons
I never show seasons changing on the alien planets we visit during the cyborg and alien stories.
There’s a simple reason for this.
The time frame of the story is usually short. (grins)
Here on Earth, we only have four true seasons – Fall/Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer. An alien planet might not have that many. Seasons last much longer than the time frame of most stories.

Back To School Supplies
It is back to school time in my corner of the universe. This is one of my favorite times of the year.
I LOVE school supplies. I love cool new pens and awesome notebooks and fun erasers and groovy backpacks (the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I take backpacks with us when we travel). All of these supplies are in the spotlight now and some of them are on sale!

Throwback Thursday – B Free
B Free is…well…it is just a fun story. (grins)
It has the Humanoid Alliance equivalent of zombies (the Resurrected i.e. brought-back-from-dead warriors).
The cyborg hero is the last of his model type. He’s huge and a bit monstrous.
The heroine is a researcher, the futuristic equivalent of an archaeologist. And she’s a bit quirky.
I REALLY had a blast writing this story!
B Free
B is the last remaining B Model cyborg. All of his brethren, the beings he trained with, fought with, cared deeply for, have perished.
Or so he believes.
When he intercepts a communication mentioning the existence of one of his kind, he has to investigate its source. The message could be a trap set by his enemies. He’ll take that risk if it secures him the companionship he requires to be fully functional.
What he finds is a daring brown-eyed female who activates all his systems. She proudly proclaims she’s a researcher, brandishing that information like a weapon before her. He wants to kiss the sass off her beautiful face, protect her from the dangers around them, claim her forever.
Quinn is on a quest to locate the mechanics of an early-version cyborg. She believes the information captured within that frame will give her valuable insights into the past.
When her mission goes zombie-like beings levels of wrong, she comes face-to-face with a living, breathing B Model. He has big hands, a primitive countenance, and stern hard lips crafted for kissing.
She doesn’t trust him. And she doesn’t have time to indulge her desires.
Their shared enemies are chasing them, would kill to get their precious specimens back. One minor mistake could reduce B and Quinn to a mere line in the databases of history.

Fighting A Seemingly Hopeless Fight
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I, after quite a bit of discussion, have decided to continue donating a portion of book sales to coral reef restoration.
I know. I know. Saving the coral reefs looks like an impossible task. The heat around Florida and in the Caribbean bleached and killed a scary number of reefs this year. Those included the coral reefs restored with ‘heat-resistant’ baby corals.
The odds of the coral reefs surviving are low.
But the odds aren’t zero! We aren’t giving up on these wonderful creatures. We’ll continue to help them battle for their survival.

Update On The Watermelon Patch
One of the Dear Wonderful Hubby’s dreams is to have his very own watermelon patch.
Watermelon is SUPER difficult to grow, especially in our part of the universe. Watermelon is a desert plant and our neighborhood is cool and damp especially this year.
But we currently have a watermelon on the vine! (The photo above is of a different one.) It is currently the size of a golf ball.
It is a Sugar Baby, one of the smaller round watermelons, and we’re hoping it will ripen before the cooler weather arrives.
