Dark Moments
There is a section in almost every romance novel we call the dark moment.
The dark moment is when everything, including the characters’ relationship, falls apart. They’re in the depths of despair. All seems hopeless.
The dark moment ramps up the drama and excitement. It makes the happy ever after seem happier. It tests the characters and it shows how much they’ve changed.
Most importantly, it reassures us, readers, the couple (or more) can go through tough times and survive.
The Dear Wonderful Hubby is undergoing a career dark moment right now.
He was part of the big tech layoffs.
We’re solid financially, fortunately. He’s a salesperson and salespeople in today’s working environment are often forced to switch jobs every 3 years. So we are always prepared for a duration of him not earning a salary.
But emotionally, it is tough for my hard working Hubby.
We’ll get through this. We’ve been through dark moments in the past.
And our relationship will be stronger as we emerge from it.
As Raw and Taytu’s relationship was stronger after their dark moment.

Muse Food – Creating Interesting Followers
We, writers, often talk about different types of leaders and different leadership skills. We strive to make these often main characters unique and interesting.
But leaders usually need followers. And there are as many types of followers are there are types of leaders.
The follower who follows commands badly is one of my favorite types. (grins)
I asked the Dear Wonderful Hubby to take a photo of an interesting bird.
THIS is the first photo he took. (laughs and shakes my head) He is such an agent of chaos.
He DID take additional photos showing the front of the bird but some people wouldn’t do that. They would feel they had followed instructions with this first photo.
And they HAD followed instructions. They had just followed the instructions badly.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – March 19th
I continue to work on the first draft of Strive For Forever, the fourth core story in the Cyborg Unity series (releasing in July).
Yes, it is a slow process. I’ve restarted the story a few times, seeking the best opening spot. I’ve chased a few wrong subplots.
My first drafts are always messy. (grins) But they are SO much fun to write.
And these false starts and wrong turns are ways for me to explore the cyborg world. I feel like I’m going on adventures!

Raw Desires And Arrogance
Does Raw, the hero of Raw Desires, truly believe he’s one of the best warriors in the universe?
Yes. He believe that is true.
Because cyborgs were designed to be great warriors. And he operates at spec.
Which means he’s a great warrior.
But his arrogance is feigned because…
He doesn’t believe he’s special in that way. All fully functional cyborgs are great warriors.

Today is Saint Patrick’s Day, a day I associate with green, all things Irish and…

We are all so very lucky, my friends. (big hugs)
We’re experiencing year 4 of a worldwide pandemic and we’re still here! Woot! That’s good luck right there.
We have access to the internet. We have stories to read and I have stories to write. We have each other. (more hugs) Hopefully, we have food to eat and a roof over our heads.
We live on the best planet in the solar system and perhaps in the universe. The air is breathable. Plants are growing all around us. There are fantastical creatures and a nourishing sun.
We are truly lucky.

Throwback Thursday – Defying Death
Death and Tifara, the cyborg hero and human heroine of Defying Death, might seem, at first glance, to have tremendously different outlooks on life.
He’s a warrior. She’s a medic with a focus on infectious diseases.
He’s a cyborg. She’s a human.
But, when we get to know them, we realize they are more alike personality-wise than different.
Death is keenly focused on one task – finding and claiming his female. He is willing to give up his lifespan for one moment with Tifara.
Tifara is willing to give up her lifespan to find cures for infectious diseases, to save lives. She is very much focused on that task…to the point of obsession.
When she meets Death, for the first time in her lifespan, her attention is…diverted. (grins)
Defying Death
He’ll risk it all for one moment of happiness.
Cyborgs don’t show emotion. Death learned that lesson early in his long lifespan. To survive, he hides his fierce passions behind a stoic wall. He calls no warrior friend. He never admits to caring for any being.
Even the human female he’s destined to love.
Tifara is Death’s obsession, his sole opportunity for happiness, to express the all-consuming passion burning brightly inside him. He’ll do anything to obtain the curvaceous medic: defy a direct order, abduct Tifara from her battle station, and wage war on his fellow cyborgs.
To earn her love, he’ll have to risk much, much more.

Planting Pots Everywhere
As I prepare for Spring and starting vegetable plants indoors, I’ve been taking an inventory of my gardening pots and trays.
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I challenge ourselves to use things one more time.
Which means my gardening pots and trays are often used food containers.
Food containers are usually food safe. That means they are less likely to contaminate soil. And they are usually waterproof and strong.
My favorite tomato plant starting containers are single serve yogurt containers. I punch holes in the bottoms and they are the PERFECT size for seedlings. Many of them have a little bit of yield to them so the seedlings and dirt pop easily out of them.
When the tomato seedlings are too big for the yogurt containers, I transfer them to washed disposable cups (again, with holes punched in the bottoms).
If I need a really big gardening pot, I use cleaned KFC chicken buckets. (grins)
The trays for my pots are often the washed bottoms of rotisserie chicken containers.
Yes, my growing setup is a bit eclectic but hey, it is free and it works for my plants!

The White Lotus And Reading Books Out Of The Series Order
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I discovered The White Lotus TV series during season two.
We devoured that season, loving the show, laughing our fool heads off in parts and battling to solve the mystery. I don’t think we lost much by starting it in season two. All the characters, except for two, were different.
We’re now going back and watching the first season. Yes, we know how the two carryover characters end up. But the rest is a mystery (in all sense of the word – grins). We’re enjoying it very much.
I try to write the stories in my series that way – hoping reading buddie will enjoy the stories on their own and/or within the series.
I don’t always succeed with this. I think Strive For Forever, the fourth story in the Cyborg Unity series (releasing in July), is more enjoyable if you have read the other three stories. But I do try to make them all stand on their own.

Muse Food – The Mist
Misty days kickstart my muse.
Look at this crane the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I spotted on a misty day in Lima, Peru.
It could be an alien probe originating from a spaceship hovering overhead. That vessel is completely concealed by the mist.
Or it could be a giant robot with its arms outstretched.
Or it could be a number of other things or beings.
The mist partially conceals and warps shapes, making them appear otherworldly and different.
That’s very inspirational. (grins)
