There is a section in almost every romance novel we call the dark moment.
The dark moment is when everything, including the characters’ relationship, falls apart. They’re in the depths of despair. All seems hopeless.
The dark moment ramps up the drama and excitement. It makes the happy ever after seem happier. It tests the characters and it shows how much they’ve changed.
Most importantly, it reassures us, readers, the couple (or more) can go through tough times and survive.
The Dear Wonderful Hubby is undergoing a career dark moment right now.
He was part of the big tech layoffs.
We’re solid financially, fortunately. He’s a salesperson and salespeople in today’s working environment are often forced to switch jobs every 3 years. So we are always prepared for a duration of him not earning a salary.
But emotionally, it is tough for my hard working Hubby.
We’ll get through this. We’ve been through dark moments in the past.
And our relationship will be stronger as we emerge from it.
