Surrounded By Butterflies
I sacrificed some of the leaves of my roses this year to white cabbage butterfly caterpillars.
And that sacrifice paid off!
We now have a gazillion butterflies in our little neighborhood. I’m looking out the window of my writing cave right now and I see one fluttering by me.
And the roses are blooming for the third time this year. They’re looking as strong as ever. So it wasn’t too big of a sacrifice.
The world is a wonderful place, my friends.

The Cyborg Unity Series
Provoking Odium, the first story in the Cyborg Unity section of the Cyborg World, was written to be read on its own.
The next four core stories in the series (Grin And Bare Him, Raw Desires, Strive For Forever and Intrepid Encounter) will be more closely connected. They will all end in a romantic happily ever after for the main couple but many of the characters will appear in the other stories and there will be a bigger plot linking them.
For example, Mohini, the heroine of Grin And Bare Him, appears in Provoking Odium. Reading Provoking Odium will provide insights into her character and backstory. Could you read Grin And Bare Him on its own and enjoy it? Sure. But you’ll enjoy it MORE if you’ve read Provoking Odium first.

Throwback Thursday – Dark Fire
I LOVE Dracheon warriors! They can breathe fire, sport scales, have claws and are oh-so-primitive. Dare, the hero of Dark Fire, is a Dracheon warrior who can’t control his inner Drache (dragon).
And Faylee, his human mate, LOVES this about him. She lives on the streets and can benefit from a big tough protector.
This is literally a beauty and the beast story. (grins)
Dark Fire
What the Beast wants, the Beast gets.
Dare’s savage nature has made him an outcast among his kind. The silver-scaled Dracheon warrior can’t control his inner beast. It’s too strong. When his primitive instincts told him his destined mate was on Carinae E, he had no choice. He had to travel to the outlaw planet. There, he hoped to meet a female powerful enough to survive his Drache.
He finds Faylee, a delicate little human.
Faylee is the best thief on the planet. Everyone she encounters mistakes her for a young boy…except for a tall, shiny warrior from off-planet. When she gazes into Dare’s flame-filled eyes, he makes her feel, for the first time, like a desirable female. The fire-breathing male has her yearning for hot kisses, fierce embraces, and a future filled with love. She doesn’t realize mating with him might be the last thing she ever does.

Mini Tomato Abundance
I have a tomato update!
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I have a gazillion ripe or ripening mini tomatoes. The plants were started from seeds from mini tomatoes we bought in the grocery store. Each plant has hundreds of mini tomatoes on them and they keep growing, keep flowering! The bees love them.
We will definitely plant more mini tomatoes next year (I’ve harvested some of the seeds from the strongest plants this year).
The heirloom, beefsteak and roma tomatoes are all still green.
I’ve been really impressed by the heirloom tomatoes (grown from seeds harvested from a grocery store tomato). They’re huge and plentiful.
The beefsteak tomatoes (grown from dollar store seeds) are…okay. They’re smaller thus far than the heirlooms and there aren’t as many tomatoes per plant.
The roma tomatoes (grown from seeds harvested from grocery store tomatoes) are random shapes and they are prone to rot. I won’t be growing them again.
But that’s okay as I have at least two, maybe three other kinds of tomatoes to grow!

Humans And Being Baddies
I’m often asked why humans are the baddies in the cyborg world. Aren’t there bad humanoids or other types of beings?
Of course, there are bad humanoids and other types of beings in the universe. Just as there are wonderful humans (as proven by the wonderful human heroines the cyborgs love).
But humans (the Humanoid Alliance) created the cyborgs for not-so-nice reasons so humans are the cyborgs’ logical enemies. They are the baddies the cyborgs are focused on.

Muse Food – Goats And Being Somewhere Unexpected
I LOVE goats.
And one of the many things I love about them is…
They go where they want. Physics and gravity be d*mned.
I’ve seen them in trees, walking along a super narrow branch.
I’ve seen them standing on the side of a completely vertical wall, balancing on the tiniest edge of stone.
This goat is tramping along a steep rocky hill.
This goat is preparing to jump off a ledge (that is way higher than it appears in the photo).
When I’m working on a story, I try to be like a goat and take my characters somewhere unexpected, somewhere they likely shouldn’t be, somewhere they might not survive.

Prey And Details
I’m talking about Prey, the latest Predator movie installment, today. There won’t be many spoilers in this post so you should be okay with reading it before watching the movie.
I LOVE the Predator movies. Some of them are better than others.
Prey, the latest installment, is one of the best. If you’ve never watched any of the movies, it is a great place to start.
One of the many things I love about this movie is…
It is EXTREMELY detailed.
Almost every scene does multiple jobs.
The title is an example of this. It serves multiple purposes.
The first movie is titled Predator. Of course, there would a movie in the series called Prey. I’ve been waiting for it. (And it did NOT disappoint me.)
Prey is perfectly suited for a story featuring a heroine who goes from being prey to being a predator. (That story arc was extremely well-done.)
And I found the Predator’s relationship to beings and creatures he classifies as prey extremely interesting. This, of course, impacts his changing relationship to Naru, the heroine.
I try to put the same level of detail into my stories.

Hybrid Tomatoes
We planted four types of tomatoes this year. One (the Beefsteak) was grown from dollar store seeds. Three (Mini, Heirloom and Roma) were grown from seeds we’d harvested from bought tomatoes.
The Mini and Heirloom tomatoes grew pretty much true to their bought tomato. And wow, there are a gazillion tomatoes on each plant. The Mini tomatoes are trying to take over the garden. The Heirloom tomatoes are HUGE.
The Roma tomatoes, however, didn’t grow true to their bought tomato.
Some of them were huge (bigger than my hand) and looked like a traditional tomato. I often mistaken them for the Beefsteaks but no, they were grown from the Roma tomato seeds.
Some of them look a bit more like how I expected Roma tomatoes to look. These tomatoes, unfortunately, have a tendency to rot at the bottom (the flower end).
If I had unlimited garden space, I would harvest the seeds and see what THEY grew. Would they be different yet again? Or would they be similar to this year’s tomatoes?
I only have a small garden, unfortunately. So I won’t be running that experiment.
Anyhoo… hybrids are tricksy – both in tomato form and in sexy character form (thinks about Kralj from Dark Thoughts). We never know what we’ll get!
