Re-reads Before Holding Hoarse
Holding Hoarse will be releasing on December 1st. This is a FREE cyborg romance short story unofficially set in the Cyborg Space Exploration series and it will be distributed via BookFunnel.
Holding Hoarse is my gift to you, a thank you for reading my other stories.
(Writing buddies reading this post, I have seen NO increase in sales from offering more than one free story in a series. These short stories are gifts to regular reading buddies. That’s their sole purpose.)
I’m adding a page called ‘Extras’ on my website and that will list all the freebies. I will also be adding Holding Hoarse to the Cyborg Space Exploration series page and I’ll be talking about the story for the entire month of December on this blog, on Twitter and on Instagram. (grins) It will be challenging to miss.
Holding Hoarse assumes you have read some of the longer cyborg romances. I would recommend reading Releasing Rage at the minimum. That story is currently FREE.
Hoarse, an ulu-fabricating C Model warrior, first appears in Passion Surge, last year’s FREE gift. That is a great story to re-read if you have the time. Hoarse, Relay, Surge, Nu and Weilai all both appear in Passion Surge AND Holding Hoarse.

Throwback Thursday – The Cyborg’s Secret Baby
I heard some of those groans. (grins) Secret Baby is a love it or hate it type of trope. Some reading buddies don’t think there is ANY good reason for a parent to withhold the existence of a baby from the other parent(s).
But that is exactly what happened…often…during WWI and WWII. Couples had wild, passionate going-away-to-war sex and babies happened. Communications were spotty. Letter delivery was iffy at best. There were no accessible phones in the middle of the battlefield. Warriors came home to children they didn’t know they had.
The Cyborg’s Secret Baby is a nod to those Earth-based stories and a tribute to the single Moms who raised their families alone during those wars.
There’s no intentional withholding of information in The Cyborg’s Secret Baby. There’s no lying or trickery. Zebrina, the strong human heroine, has no way to contact Stealth, the cyborg hero. She worries he has died in battle. And Stealth is prevented from contacting and finding Zebrina.
There isn’t even a true baby in this story as cyborg offspring physically mature within one solar cycle (one year), which makes the situation even more heart-wrenching and challenging to overcome.

The Cyborg’s Secret Baby

Break The ‘Rules’ A Bit
I’m a bit of a rebel. I think many readers and writers are this way. I don’t like rules and I don’t like expectations.
But not following the rules or guidelines right now health-wise during a pandemic will put people in danger. The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I are staying home as much as possible. We’re wearing masks when we go out. Only one of us usually grocery shops. We haven’t dined in at a restaurant since February. I haven’t seen my at-risk Awesome Mom in person in over a year.
This is necessary to save lives but it stresses my rebellious soul.
So I rebel in other areas. Today, the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I are eating pork chops for lunch. That’s normally a dinner food for us. We made ice cream sundaes at midnight. This morning, we raked leaves in the snow, knowing that snow would melt by noon. We have pajamas days and no pants days and other themed days. I sent some of my Christmas-celebrating loved ones Christmas cards in August.
We’re having an absolute blast. These small rebellions are adding to our fun and allowing us to do what we have to do, follow the guidelines, to protect others.
Stay as safe as you can, my friends, but consider rebelling in small ways in other areas.

You Deserve A Reading Break
I’m heading into the writing cave this morning to write the first chapter of Under Strain, the second story in the upcoming Rebel Cyborgs series. I’m dang happy about doing this. I’m thrilled to pieces and have a huge smile on my face.
The Earth-based world is a bit stressful right now. I’m worried about so many things and so many people, and I’m taking care of these things and people as best as I can.
But I need breaks in order to do this. I need writing breaks and I need reading breaks.
When I write or read, I recharge. I calm down. I restore my energy levels, as my cyborgs would say. I become stronger and more capable of doing everything I need to do (which, in 2020, consists mostly of ensuring everyone survives and experiences some happiness – that’s a HUGE mission and if we’re doing that, we should consider ourselves to be tremendously successful).
Reading and me time isn’t a nice-to-have in 2020. It is essential to our health. Please don’t forgo it.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – November 15th
I completed the first round edits for Containing Malice (releasing in February) on Friday and have sent those back to my Awesome Editor. The story works! Yay! That is always a happy day. (grins)
I’m playing around with my website and this blog today so don’t become alarmed if the look of it changes or it is temporarily broken. Some buddies have shared that the white text on the black background on my website is hard to read. I’ll likely go with a dark text on white background combination.
This week, I plan to start writing the first draft for Under Strain, the second story in the Rebel Cyborgs series. The schedule called for the revisions of 3 more short stories for C.S. Sax but I’m super inspired and excited about this next cyborg romance. I will indulge my muse and write it next.

Friday The 13th And Superstitions
Today is Friday the 13th, a day some people consider to be ‘bad luck.’
One of my loved ones was born on a 13th so I have a very different view of the day. The day she was born was a very lucky day for me.
I DO hold other superstitions.
I consider ladybugs to be good luck. Being from the farm, I know ladybugs eat some insects that are harmful to crops.
I ‘knock on wood’ after I say something is going well. This reminds me that things might change and I should be grateful for the current state.
I NEED to see the Dear Wonderful Hubby off, giving him a kiss and a wave, whenever he leaves the house. If I don’t do this, I feel…unsettled until he returns. I worry that it might be the last time I ever see him. Danielle has the same superstition in the movie Ever After. Her stepmother and stepsisters don’t follow it when her father leaves and well, we all know what happens to Cinderella’s father.
I don’t like to leave cook time on the microwave. I heard when I was a kid that if the microwave is stopped before the set time and that time is left on it, it could turn on and blow up. There’s no science to this. I know this is a myth. (sheepish grin) Yet I still have to delete the remaining time.

Throwback Thursday – Warlord Sky
I know, I know. Warlord Sky isn’t that old. But as the series is now complete, I thought it would be nice to feature it again.
Nayan, the heroine of Warlord Sky, is one of my favorite heroines EVER (of the ones I’ve written about). And I love the robot ‘family’ she has created. Hitch, her tiny hitchhiker bot, makes me laugh. Tubby is so very sweet. They adore their maker.
Qulpa, the hero, is super hunky yet extremely understanding. He admires his fated mate’s intellect as much as he desires her form. And he has his own ‘created’ family, the other warriors on the ship’s crew.
Warlord Sky
No one grounds a barbarian warrior.
Qulpa, a Chamele warrior, lost everyone he loved in the brutal Succession Wars. Flying is the only thing that brings him joy. Serving as his team’s pilot is the sole duty he has left. Then a horrific crash leaves him injured and unable to fly.
The one being who can help him is also his gerel, the female destined to be his. She insists she doesn’t feel their connection. Qulpa is certain his beautiful mate is lying and nothing will stop him from finding out why.
Nayan knows the injured barbarian is her warrior, her one chance at a forever bond. His dominance makes her feel safe. His gentle touch inflames her passion. His kisses scorch her very soul. The tall muscular male tempts her as no one else has.
But she has a deadly secret. If it’s exposed, her injured male will lose more than his ability to fly. Both of them will die. She can’t take that risk, not for him, not for them, not for a lifespan filled with love.

The Darkness Of War

On this lockdown Remembrance Day, I thought I’d answer one of the questions I often receive from reading buddies – “Do you have to make your stories so dark and violent?”
I write about warriors and war so yes, I DO have to make my stories violent and dark in tone. I believe to skim over the darkness, to minimize the horror of war, how it impacts warriors and others is to dishonor our Earth-based warriors’ experiences and sacrifices.
War is often unfortunately necessary but it IS brutal. I will never forget the expressions on my Great Uncle Frank’s face when he relived moments of battle (you can read about that experience here – http://tasteofcyn.com/2013/11/11/lest-we-forget/ ). I have read accounts of war that give me nightmares years later. It is horrific.
War changes people forever. It impacts relationships. It touches almost all aspects of a warrior’s life present and future. Just as there is no such thing as an ex-Marine, there is also no such thing as an ex-warrior in any other role. The experience stays with anyone (real or fictional) who has endured it.
Our warriors are making extreme sacrifices to protect us, defend us, keep us safe. I would never want to minimize their service or experiences in any way.

Warlord’s Return
