I believe names are very important. I put quite a bit of thought into characters’ names, ensuring they reflect the being. The names in my March release, Dark Thoughts, are no exception.
Kralj, the scarred mind-reading hero, is the Ruler of the Refuge, the settlement he built and now controls. His name means ‘King’ in Croatian.
That is exactly how he rules. He listens to everyone (whether he wants to or not – he hears every thought within the Refuge) and then he makes decisions solo. There’s no committee. There’s no debate over the right decision. It is his way or nothing.
Until he meets Dita, the heroine.
Dita is his pint-sized equal (they’re not the same but they are equal). Her name means ‘Spoils Of War’ in many different languages, which is fitting because she’s an assassin. Her profession is violence.
I also loved the sounds of their names. Kralj’s name is growly and rough. He’s half beast and is very growly and rough. Dita’s name is as short as she is (grins). It is feminine yet strong, just like she is.

Can love redeem a monster?
The Refuge is home to some of the most violent beings in the universe. Kralj, its leader, reigns over the remote outpost with terrifying ease, ruthlessly squashing any rumors of rebellion, killing anyone who breaks his rules. Primitive, deadly, powerful, he’s a monster, scarred both on his face and his soul. He has never met a being he couldn’t control.

Dita is rare, as unique as he is, and, to keep the residents of the Refuge safe, Kralj will have to kill her. But first, he’ll touch her, taste her, show her how passionate the beast inside him can be.
